About August

Schnauzer / Cairn
Age: Adult
Sex: Male

August would be such a perfect companion for anyone who is searching for a loving and loyal best friend. At just about 6 years old (such a great age..old enough to have left babyish behaviors behind and young enough to have many, many healthy and active years ahead) and 30 lbs (a perfect size for hiking the Colorado mountains). August is so portable that he can be a full-time best friend accompanying his guardians everywhere a very sweet dog is welcome. It's always amazing to us at Farfel's Rescue that these dogs with great temperaments, as well as so very beautiful, end up in urgent situations. August was relinquished to a high-kill shelter by his guardian when he was hit by a car. Shelter vets found that the damage was to August's leg and that it can be fixed with a surgery. They also feel that following this surgery, August will be good as new. Farfel's is happy to cover all costs for August's leg surgery as well as his neuter at the same time if our Denver rescue vet is used. August's surgery rehab period is said to be simple with rest and leash walks. After approximately 6 - 8 weeks or so, August should be good as new and ready to experience hikes, neighborhood walks and backyard fun with his family. August was a last-minute save for us...he would have been euthanized in a dismal Texas shelter if kind rescuers hadn't stepped up. But how could they not have? This very sweet and laid back guy is awesome. August's Houston foster had the following to say about this wonderful dog: This beautiful guy is a gem! He'll be a true gift to a family that's seeking a mellow, and super-friendly family dog. I've been taking him on lots of walks and errands to work with his socialization..no effort there! August is so friendly and sweet to everyone we meet in our travels! He loves other dogs and is completely appropriate with them. He's also excellent with every human we've encountered. Kids of all ages are fun for August (I haven't tested him with kids under 5 because they can be so tough on dogs). My neighbor kids (girls 8 and 11) came over to watch a movie and cuddle with August. It was the cutest thing ever..he was sandwiched between the girls as happy as can be! The girls also found out that August knows sit/stay and were busy teaching him other tricks. August is such an easy going guy that he even gets along with my two very grouchy cats. August, being newly rescued from a very challenging life, is a blank slate waiting to learn about his world. With clear guidance and positive reinforcement August can have great behavior and be a very bonded companion. He is an all-time snuggler and will cuddle his way into any heart! Farfel's is happy to provide a list of approved positive reinforcement trainers in your area. August may be a bit frightened initially after transport since rehoming is scary ..but with love and nurturing, he will absolutely shine. We envision August with loving and kind retirees...he would be overjoyed with the time he could spend in their company. It's not that August is a needy guy...not at all...he just loves the company of his humans who love and respect him for all his wonderful traits. For those family members who enjoy walks and time outside in the beautiful Colorado scenery, August would love nothing more than to share the experience. He is always up for a walk, fascinated by the activity around him. He breathes in the air, so happy to be free of the dismal shelter environment. Then, maybe his favorite part...it's time to end the day with hugs, belly rubs and a warm spot on the bed beside his favorite people. August appears to be a non-shedding (or lightly shedding) guy. It's difficult to tell for certain at this time until after a sudsy bath and grooming. August will require a commitment to periodic baths/grooming and great nutrition (a daily salmon oil supplement is a great choice for longevity and coat care) to keep his coat very healthy and matt-free. August will be arriving on transport in Boulder on Friday 1/18/19. If interested in this adorable..and very cuddly and loving best friend, please fill out an application completely at http://farfels.com/farfels-rescue/adoption-form/ and submit. PLEASE NOTE: If you're truly interested in adopting August, please be sure to fill out our adoption application. It's the only initial tool that we have to determine a great match for this very deserving dog. We're sorry, but in most circumstances, we're unable to get back to those that don't submit an adoption application. Thanks very much for choosing rescue.
