About Raksha

Raksha is about 8 years old and weighs about 40lbs. This girl is going to need a very special home who can give her lots of TLC. Raksha's history is a bit of a mystery, but we think she may have been on her own for some time. Raksha took quite some time to warm up to us and has been making huge strides since her arrival! She is no longer the terrified, statue who hides in the back corner of her kennel--she enjoys playtime with other dogs in the yards, going on walks, and taking treats. Leashes are still new and a bit scary, but they also lead to adventures! Raksha is very comfortable with other dogs and it's clear she has been around them before. With humans, it can take her some time to get to know you, and she can be skittish in new situations--doorways need a close eye, so she doesn't dart. She seems to prefer the outdoors and will even root up a little den in the dirt to sleep in when she can. Through all of her shyness, she has never once shown us anything negative towards us--no growling, nothing of that sort. She got a full brush out, bath, and nail trim and tolerated it all very politely. This girl has a long way to go and will need a patient, understanding home to help fold her into normal life and teach her that these things are not as scary as she thinks they are! Available at the Josephine County Animal Shelter 1420 Brookside Blvd. Grants Pass, across from the Grants Pass Airport. You are encouraged to call the shelter at 541 474-5458. When calling please press option 0. Hours open to the public 10 am - 4 pm every day except Sunday and posted holidays. Up to date on shots, spayed or neutered and micro chipped. You are encouraged to make every effort to visit the shelter for a meet and greet. Staff available to assist. You can walk on the trails and interact in the play yards. Unless otherwise noted, we can not say if your dog does well with cats, livestock or chickens or with the dogs you may already have in your home or at dog parks. So please, if you have a dog, please arrange to bring for a meet and greet. Current vaccinations, spayed or neutered and micro chipped.
