About Buddy

Adoption Fee: $275
Great Pyrenees
Age: Puppy
Sex: Male

Pal's Place would love to introduce you to Buddy, a beautiful and majestic 15 month-old (D.O.B 10/27/17) male Great Pyrenees in need of a loving forever home. This gorgeous fellow was purchased from a breeder when he was just 10 weeks old to be a family companion. He grew up with 5 children that absolutely adored him but was regrettably surrendered to rescue when one of the children's allergies to him were no longer able to be controlled with medication. Buddy originally came to Pal's Place in September when he was 11 months old and was quickly adopted out. Buddy has recently been returned to Pal's Place for placement when he began to show signs of resource guarding certain high-value items and nipped at his adopter when they were trying to remove him from a small space and he felt cornered. He is generally a very affectionate, approachable and friendly dog, but like many Pyrs, especially adult males, he is strong-willed and stubborn and needs a confident dog savvy owner. Buddy, can be reserved and aloof with strangers as typical for the breed, but he warms up relatively quickly. He can also be a little head shy if strangers try to grab his collar. He does not mind being petted around his neck, but he does not like unknown people to grab his collar. Because of this and his tendency to resource guard certain items, even though he's done wonderfully with children in the past, he will not be placed in a home with children or where children frequently visit. He is being fostered with several other dogs and he gets along great with other dogs. He also does just fine with cats and pays no attention to them. With those he knows and trusts he is a loyal friend until the end. Buddy has attended training classes and did well. We are hoping to find an experienced and dog savvy owner, familiar with the breed to continue his training. He is not a dog for the first time dog owner, nor for the first time Pyr or giant breed owner. He will be a remarkable companion for anyone who knows and loves the breed. Buddy's adoption fee to the rescue is $275. He is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped and taking flea and heartworm prevention. He is currently being fostered near Rockford, IL and can be seen by appointment once an application has been received and approved.
