About Eleanor (Ellie)

Adoption Fee: $10
Lab mix
Age: Adult
Sex: Female

Ellie is a very sweet, relatively low energy lab with some health issues that I am hoping to find someone to foster. Due to the cost of her care, I wouldn't expect anyone to pick her as an adoption. I am currently in a situation where I cannot keep her, but I can continue to pay for her care if I could find a good home for her. (The Health options dropdown on this website didn't provide good options that fit her, so I just selected Not Evaluated but she does see a vet regularly.) She has always been an inside dog and it is very rare that she wants to be outside unless someone else is out there with her. She has always been an only-dog but seems to get along ok with other dogs in the neighborhood and on the few occasions I have dog-sat for someone. She has never lived with children, but loves playing with my grandchildren. Her favorite activities are playing fetch with a tennis ball or a Frisbee and going for walks. She has a hamstring issue, so she no longer likes to run long distances to fetch. Now she prefers short distance fetches, maybe 20 to 40 feet -- even indoors throwing it three feet. She also likes to go for daily walks. She has had skin issues all of her life and requires frequent baths (at least weekly and sometimes twice a week.) Currently, she gets a shot once per month, takes a allergy pill 2 to 3 times daily, and is also currently on an antibiotic and antifungal pill. I am willing to continue paying for the vet care, pay for her food (she is currently on a grain-free salmon based feed), and her flea and heartworm medication. She is a great dog that would make a great companion for someone who is home most of the time. Currently I am in a situation where another member of my household has eczema and strong dog allergies, so I have to find a new home for Ellie. Eventually I will be moving. So if you would like to 'try' this and see how it goes, I am open to that. If it doesn't work out for you, I will take her back. On the other hand, if the two of you fall in love and you prefer to keep her even after I get into my own house again, that is fine too. I am located in the Gardendale/Fultondale area. Since I will be continuing to provide for her care, her new home will need to be within a reasonable drive from there (preferably within an hour).
