About Duke

Adoption Fee: $499
Bernese Mountain Dog / Poodle
Age: Puppy
Sex: Male

Date into Rescue: 12/13/2018 Reason for being in rescue: Breeder release/health of the breeder What kind of home would be best for me: We are seeking a home with an experienced dog owner who understands that good things come to those who wait. That Duke will come out of his shell with time and patience. Very young kids who are moving fast and are loud may not be a good idea. He could use a calm, happy canine companion to learn from. He has always been with a lot of dogs and we're not sure how he will do without one. He could use a buddy to follow around. What is my personality like: Duke is very shy and reserved until he is comfortable with someone. When he is unsure, he paces a lot. Once comfortable, he will come to you and rest his head on your knee or press against your shoulder, letting you know that petting would be appreciated as long as it's slow. He is not good on a leash at all, but this is a skill he can learn. He does not cats or other dogs, but also does not want other animals challenging him or being in his face too much. He's a very laid back kind of guy right now. We think this will change with confidence and experience but only time will tell. How do I act when I first meet new people: Very reserved. Tips and Tidbits: Give Duke time and don't try to rush it and he will open up in time, but if you try to force the issue, he will get scared. Duke wants to trust and he wants to be a normal dog but his life circumstances so far has been limited. He does not have any experience in suburbia and having a famil and he needs to be taught. Please note, this breed is NOT HYPOALLERGENIC. House trained: Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained. A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule.
