About Maverick

This is Jasmine, writing to you to express my needs for someone to help me and my rescue hound Maverick. I rescued him about 2 years ago from the Pitt Community Animal Shelter, which is a kill shelter and he was only a week away from his put down date. I went in looking for a dog that would work well with my cats and he was just so perfect when I saw him. I passed by many puppies and other dogs but when I saw him, and he just looked up at me with his beautiful brown eyes, long snout, and floppy ears, my heart just melted. I was just worried about him being a natural hunting dog and wanting to eat my cats. I brought one cat to the shelter to make sure he could be around them and he didn't mind my cat one bit. I fell in love with him instantly and took him home. I love him more than anything but since I got him, my circumstances have dramatically changed and I have gotten in a bit of a predicament to where I cannot care for him the way that I was once able to. I have tried to find him a home around here and among my peers, but have had no luck and I cannot take him back to the kill shelter we have here. I want to take him to someone that I know is looking out for his well being. I don't want to have to do this, and it pains me in many ways but I have to do what is best for him and give him the best out of this life as he can get and I'll even drive across the country to make sure he gets it. Maverick is a 7 year old Walker hound and is not a normal hound. He had a rough few years before I saved him and it is clear by how he is afraid of loud noises and is scared of many things. He doesn't hunt, and doesn't have any desires but to love and to be loved. I want to make sure he doesn't go to anyone that will make him hunt or do anything he doesn't want to do. He does know how to howl on command and he is extremely goofy. He trips over his own feet and gets right in your way when you're walking, follows you everywhere, gets tangled up if you put him on a lead, but he is the best dog in the world and would make a great family dog. He just needs someone who has time to give him nice walks during the day and a fenced in yard to play in and that spoils him at night with a nice dog bed by a fireplace or the foot of the bed, or maybe even someone that likes to cuddle because he is a great little spoon. All of this is what he needs, because that's what he deserves. I'm willing to do anything to get him this life. I truly believe everyone comes into your life for a reason and I was just a stepping stone in his life to get him to another, better place for him to call home. In conclusion, I would really appreciate your help in this venture to find him a beautiful, forever home that he deserves after his long life of hardships. I'm happy to say I was able to help him get to where he is now but it's time for him to have a new adventure to get him to his final destination.
