About Monty

Adoption Fee: $200
German Shepherd / Newfoundland
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male

Monty is a 5-year-old, neutered male, strikingly gorgeous German Shepherd/Newfie mix who has been in foster care at a kennel in Central Maine for quite some time and really needs, and deserves, a permanent home of his own. He is a big (about 100lbs) fluffy, sweetheart of a guy who needs a patient, kind yet firm owner who will meet his needs. He gets along with some dogs but is dog aggressive with others and/or can get possessive of his human when other dogs are around, and he has a high prey drive for smaller critters, so a home with no other pets is a must for him. He needs to be in a home with no children as he doesn't know his own size and can be quite boisterous. Monty also needs a secure fenced in yard. Monty has IBS so he is on a special diet of Wellness Duck and Oatmeal. He does very well on this food and will need to continue with this diet plan in the future to maintain a healthy digestive system. Monty is very loving and loves to play, but can also be pushy as he has not had anyone work with him to set consistent boundaries. He loves toys and loves to chew them up so will need plenty of things to keep him busy. At the kennel he also has a tendency to rip his blankets but this behavior may calm down significantly after he has been in a stable environment for a while. Monty thrives on attention and really deserves a chance at a happy life as someone's loving pet. He is quick to bond and eager to please and so we believe with time, training and consistency he will blossom into an amazing boy and wonderful companion. Anyone interested or FMI please e-mail me. After initial e-mail correspondence, if you may be a good match for Monty, we can speak on the phone and then I'll put you in touch with his handlers at the kennel. Thank you.
