About Gus

Meet Gus Poor tiny Gus looks to be a victim of a vicious leg trap. This trap ensnared Gus little leg, mangling it beyond use. Somehow this little black and tan Chihuahua mix broke free of the deadly trap. In great pain and uncertain after his ordeal, he limped up to a kindly stranger who wouldn't turn his back him. One look at the tiny dog and he knew he needed to help. After trying to find his owner with no luck, he surrendered Gus to our shelter on December 20 after we agreed that we'd get Gus's leg taken care of. Gus recently had surgery to amputate his front leg and he is on the mend! He motors around on only three legs as if nothing happened, much to our relief. He's such a little charmer that we think he's almost too good to be true. He loves, loves, loves people, cats and seems to like other dogs. He loves to snuggle in comforting arms, but also walks well on a leash. He rides well in a car. And, he's housebroken! The vet thinks he's about 1.5 years old. Gus only weighs about 10 lbs. He's very quiet except for the squeaking sounds he makes to get your attention. Due to his extensive surgery, Gus's fee is $200 to help offset some of his costly vet bills. All adopters must complete an approval process which involves a reference check with current/recent vet and a brief home visit if located in the immediate area. We do permit out of state adoptions. Adopters MUST come to the shelter to transport their new family member home. We do not ship nor do we transport them to their new homes. Charles Smithgall Humane Society (CSHS) is a No kill shelter. Animals in our care remain safe with us until adopted. Resident animals are primarily owner relinquished and also accepted from local Animal Control. The facility usually is operating at capacity with a list of animals waiting for space to open.
