!!!Reasons You DON'T Want to Adopt Parker the Pompous Beagle!!! Sure, we could list all of the reasons why Parker is a good dog, which we will do, and just leave out the bad, but that's just not how we roll here at For Belle's Sake. We are more full disclosure type of people and there is a lot to disclose about Parker. First, Parker is fat. And I don't just mean overate a few times fat. I mean, can't turn his head, triple chin, ate the whole buffet every day kind of fat. We are working on this here at rescue much to his dissatisfaction but he has a weight'|I mean, ways to go. In true notorious beagle fashion, he has no restraint. And that applies to a lot of things. Second, Parker has been brought to rescue twice. The first time was for being a total jerk and the second time was after adoption for still being a total jerk. We gave him a pass on the first surrender because upon research, we discovered he was an RJs Pet Store puppy and those dogs are rarely of the best behavior, genetics, or health. Often they are taken too young from their mothers and are victims of mills. This can lead to some behavior issues if not worked with immediately. The second time causing him to come back to rescue was after adoption to a great family, and even though they adored him, he was still known to be a jerk on occasion. We had made great strides with him before adoption and don't see this time being any different. You see, Parker doesn't like rules. Parker doesn't conform to human desires. Although, we are also working on this with him, he will require a human who has rules and routine. Parker is not a mean dog. But if looks could kill, I would wish I was a cat and had 9 lives because he despises being told what to do. He pretty much hates doing anything he has to but some of his most despised phrases are 'Get off the high chair' 'stop stealing the food' 'go outside'. Parker is fine being the only canine member of a family. While the pompous beagle has never actually attacked another dog here, he has made it clear that the possibility is not ruled out. He doesn't like to share'|anything. Not his food, not his toys, not his treats, not your lap. Everything in his domain, in his opinion, belongs to him and he is the all ruler of the kingdom. Parker doesn't have a choice here at rescue as he is around other dogs all of the time, but he would still prefer to be the boss, although he does play with the others! He fails to realize that I hold the food, I hold the affection, I set the rules'| A home with another medium or large dog is not ruled out, but an owner, or in his eyes, a servant, should be firm and corrective of his selfishness. Fish gotta swim... birds gotta fly... Parker's gotta sing and sing until he finds his forever home with you. And it's not a pretty voice. He is a choir drop out. Parker doesn't have the beautiful beagle bray. No, he has a half morphed bark, bray, yelp combination that will make your ears beg for mercy. He isn't loud often, but when he is, it isn't the voice I would expect from a beagle. Although, it is the voice to be expected from a pet store 'purebred' I suppose. He can't seem to decide if he wants to be a beagle, a lab, or a Chihuahua. Although there are some not so desirable traits attributed to Parker the Pompous Beagle, there are some pretty great things too. First, he is a beagle. I mean, they're just a cool dog in general. Second, he is housetrained. Although not a fan of the cold, he does do his business outdoors. Third, he loves to cuddle. And he will steal your couch. So if you worry about dog hair on your furniture, well, that is a valid concern with Parker. Dog beds just don't cut it, but you're bed? That will do. He crates easily and is crate trained. He isn't destructive. He is loyal. He loves to go for walks. He rides nice in the car. And he is a good companion. Apply for adoption today! Or don't, Parker doesn't care remember?
