About Mavrick (west)

MAVRICK - A4117445 My name is MAVRICK. I am a neutered male, black and white American Pit Bull Terrier. The shelter staff think I am about 2 years and 3 months old, and I have been at the shelter since Sep 10, 2018. Mavrick is a very sweet and gentle guy, but very scared. We don't know what his circumstances were in the past, but probably he was not treated very well. When he was introduced to the play area with other dogs, he was kind of defensive when approached by other dogs, but did not escalate. He just went off and sat in the corner of the yard. He slightly avoids the leash, but doesn't growl. Once out, he walks OK on the leash, but his tail is tucked, and cowers whenever other dogs bark at him. He will seek a human's attention, and allow petting, and will sit by your side. He likes walking, so he would probably make a great walking or hiking buddy. He does flinch at loud noises, or if you reach for him too fast. However, he does not make you feel nervous about his intentions. He even stalls a little when entering a doorway. Mavrick enjoys treats, taking them gently, and he will chase a ball, but not bring it back. This sweet boy more than likely was pretty much ignored and maybe not treated well. But he certainly seems to love being around people, and probably kids, too, but a meet and greet would be most advisable to be certain of his attitude.
