About Hunter

Adoption Fee: 300
Flat-Coated Retriever / Border Collie
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male

Hunter: Age: 4.5 yrs; Sex: Male; Breed: Flat Coated Retriever/Border Collie; Activity Level: Active Companion; Weight: 47 lbs; Coat: Rough. Hunter is in the prime of his life experiencing a lot more opportunities since his owner surrendered him to rescue without enough time to meet his needs with young babies in the home. Hunter came from a nice home that just wasn't equipped to handle his stimulation and socialization needs he missed out on during his pup years. Beautiful Hunter is really easy to work with given enough stimulation and reducing stress in the home with an experienced handler. He is a soft dog that has been able to explore meeting dogs and people, areas he was uncertain about in his past all of which he loves. His temperament is somewhat submissive coming alive in the right environment when given something to do and on the leash. Hunter loves to walk, he could go 6 miles a day even with some jog walking, and having a safe ample space to run (super-fast) and play fetch in his home; he would excel with more trick training and or obedience work potentially taking his ball drive further and even agility. He is ready to learn and absorbs the information quickly and will show me when he is overwhelmed with any situation. Hunter does have a strong herding drive and dog parks are too much for him but he would do very well having confidant dog friends and or a non-dominate dog in the home near his size a pack leader type to hang with and games of chase and herd; as well as a human pack leader; he thrives off confidence and lessons given to him with non-forceful engagement. He is a fantastic dog who opens his heart to his people, very athletic and requires a good amount of stimulation and socialization, super easy to redirect and teach new things as he is very smart eager to learn. A gentleman inside the home, never jumps on your furniture; uses his crate for all meals human and dog; sometimes anxious in the car but learning to settle easier same for when you're watching a movie; has gone to children school functions with his former foster enjoying every minute. While he may not be a true service dog he is one for me and would love a job of going to a library for children reading hours, and some local festival events, camping even, he also will alert if there is danger. I have seen Hunter driven with ducks and he likes to cool off in puddles and may even try to swim this summer. The ideal home for Hunter: children 8 and up; 6 foot privacy fence preferred; if working during the day 8 hours he will require a day break with a dog walker; if you work from home plan on taking breaks for walks, play or tricks; active retired with continued socialization and fun outings; uncertain about cats due to his drive with movement from our furry friends; ample yard and neighbor space. He is vaccinated with Rabies and tittered for Distempor Parvo, chipped, on monthly meds, house trained, crate trained. At this time he won't be travelling to an adopter they must come to meet him. Hunters adoption donation is $300 and requires an application and home visit
