Date into Rescue: 11/8/2018 Reason for being in rescue: found as stray Special Needs: None noted but please read the full description What kind of home would be best for me: Sandy needs someone who understands the unique schnazer mentality - kind of stubborn and kind of sweet. She could be ok with another dog her size or larger but she can be a bit pushy with other dogs. She would be good as an only dog also and she adores human affection. We prefer someone home most of the time to let her out frequently to work on house training. What is my personality like: Loving and affectionate. How do I act when I first meet new people: Sandy loves people. Tips and Tidbits: Sandy was found as a stray and she was matted to the skin. She had to be groomed under sedation it was so very bad. Since then she has been groomed and done fine. I think the key with her is to keep her bathed and groomed consistently. When Sandy was brought to us by a good Samaritan, a person reached out on Facebook claiming Sandy was hers. She stated that when she was a puppy, Sandy has been hit by a car and had brain damage and could not be house trained so she had put the pup outside to live and that was why she was so dirty. She also stated she had been out of work and had not been able to afford shots, heartworm preventative or professional grooming. When I asked for proof of ownership, vet records were sent that reflected a dog that had been hit by a car but the name of the owner on the records had been left off. I asked for a copy of the records with her name showing as owner of record and never got a response back. I have often wondered if perhaps this was the owner but she decided we could give her more than she could and so backed off of claiming ownership. I wish her well and if she is reading this, I want her to know that Sandy is being well cared for. Sandy is being challenging to house train but I have noticed that when she does her circle spinning act, this means she is getting ready to go. There is no other signal but spinning like a top is a good enough signal for me and we take her out when it happens. House trained: Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained. A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule.
