About TINKERBELL - $300

Adoption Fee: 300
Cairn / Yorkie
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Female

TINKERBELL was saved from a high kill shelter in Texas where dogs have just 3 dogs to be saved. TINKERBELL is spayed, core vaccines, rabies, de-wormed, heartworm and tick disease tested negative and micro-chipped. She has an estimated date of birth of 3 December 2015 and at the time of rescue at the beginning of December 2018 weighed around 17.60 pounds. She is listed as a Yorkshire Terrier / Cairn Terrier Mix. We have no way of knowing the exact breed, it is up to individuals to decide what breed they think is most likely. %BD%BD%BD'%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BDTINKERBELL IS NOT GOOD WITH CATS. TINKERBELL was adopted at the end of December 2018 but was returned to the rescue in February 2019 due to her having prey drive for the families cats. They tried to make it work, but were concerned for both the cats well-being and also of Tinkerbell and so with sad hearts they brought her back. They said she was very active and would need a family that does go on walks and adventures and gives here the opportunity to run a lot. They was training her to stand on her back feet for treats and had a lot of fun with her. After a few days the family reached back out stating that they are going to build a place for the cats as they want her back in their lives, so they came and picked her back up. Sadly this only lasted for a few months since Tinkerbell continued to be aggressive with the cats. In March Tinkerbell had 3 seizures within the month and the vet prescribed prednisone. No cause has been diagnosed and she has been doing great, but this is of course a consideration for families when they consider adopting her as she may need life-long medications, which prednisone is very in-expensive, but since she stll has a lot of life in her, regular testing would be recommended. When Tinkerbell arrived at the rescue in December she was very shy and a little over-whelmed with all the other dogs. After a few days she settled down and got into the routine, although she was still reserved and didn't like being with a lot of dogs. When in a smaller groups she was fine. She has never been aggressive with other dogs or protective over food or anything else whilst here at the rescue. She rides great in the car and loves to snuggle. As with all rescue's she needs guidance and training and we recommend families go through at least the basics of training with her themselves so that boundaries, personalities and body language can be learned from each other. TINKERBELL is very responsive and training would be fun and easy as long as proper training techniques are followed and are consistent. Although Tinkerbell is a small dog, she is an active girl and walks, runs and adventures is important for her to live a fulfilled life. %BD%BD%BD'%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BDWe do not recommend dog parks for several weeks, if not months, it is so very important for families and dogs to form a strong bond and get to know each other before exposing them to the potential dangers of dog parks. Although all GaDaH dogs are very well socialized with other dogs, lots of other dogs have not had the benefit of this socialization and do not always know how to play and act with other dogs. You also do not know the control the other families have over their dogs and you should always have a good recall for your adopted dog before going to dog parks. All dogs (except dogs saved from China) are available for adoption for an adoption fee of $550. %BD%BD%BD'%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BDCanadian adopters need to know that customs charge 15% taxes when entering into Canada. This fee is not negotiable and is used to cover the rescue costs of pulling, vetting, health certificate, transport from Texas to Maine, monthly preventatives, supplements, food and anything else that is needed.
