Adoption Fee: $150
Mastiff
Age: Adult
Sex: Male

Brown brindle Cane Corso (Italian Mastiff) adult male, 7 years old (March 2011) papered, docked tail, fixed, healthy, UTD on all shots & license. He is a big boy, I'd guess around 120 when he's bulked up. He's a bit skinny right now because he ate something bad about 6 weeks ago that made him sick, didn't eat for almost a week, so he's getting back to normal finally after a steady bone & broth diet, he's on normal dog food now. He is a big true gentle giant, he LOVES kids (we have 3, 4 & 6 year olds he's grown up with), likes other dogs & tolerates cats. Doesn't seem to have any issues with our chickens or ducks but we really don't tempt fate on that one. He doesn't wander but loves to go on walks or hikes, car rides and adventures. He will chase the cats which is frustrating but I think he's trying to play, he's never been in a fight or attacked anything. He 'play' chases my parents very aggressive & dumb chihuahua. The good: he's a big beautiful loving lug of a dog, very protective, barks at the visitors/delivery drivers but then only wants love from them too. Is healthy & active & surely has years left of play. He'll chase a ball but won't always bring it right back. Is a good eater. Crate trained, potty trained, indoor. Low key, mellow & low energy. The bad: he chews. He eats. Everything. He has a boredom anxiety issue because he was crated all day for hours by his first parents (1st year of his life) then his 2nd year he was put in a small kennel & left again to boredom. We had a female Cane when we rescued him & she was a nightmare, so although they loved each other her Alpha aggressive behavior made him more anxious. He's absolutely awesome when he's taken care of & loved, but when he's bored & left to his own devices he will eat: cardboard, his bed, towels, chew on rocks, chew on shoes, whatever dead thing or garbage he can find, clothing, poop. Yes, poop. Especially cat, but he's not picky. So like I said, a good eater. But the rest is true Cane family dog character. We have a small house right now with 3 kids, 3 cats, another dog, 22 chickens & 5 ducks and only more livestock to come, so having to 'watch' a big dog is not high on my priority list. He is indoors only right now so I can poop train him (he seems to have forgotten that he needs to find a specific bathroom area & was pooping on the driveway & decorative rocks, I THINK to get attention) as well as ensure he's not eating anything inappropriate. I would recommend someone do that with him for a few weeks as well, taking him on a leash where they want him to go potty until he learns it. He can hold it overnight/during the day/etc like a normal indoor potty trained dog. I will only rehome him to someone that knows his faults & still loves him for it & is willing & able to give him the love & attention he needs to keep his anxiety at bay. It is truly the boredom + seeing the freedom of the cats & our other dog that gets him excited, so he needs a walk every day, and lots of love. He would probably sleep 20 hours a day if he can get 4 hours of good love & fulfillment. I just cannot give that to him right now but I will not let him go until I know we've found the best home. I will always take him back too! He is not a problem dog, he just truly needs more attention & time than we have right now, which is like most dogs, I am just being super honest about him so nothing is a surprise. A dog is a dog & is work no matter how easy they are.
