About SASSIE

Adoption Fee: $550
Rottweiler mix
Age: Puppy
Sex: Female

SASSIE was saved from a high kill shelter in Texas where dogs have just 3 dogs to be saved. SASSIE is spayed, core vaccines, rabies, de-wormed, heartworm and tick disease tested negative and micro-chipped. She has an estimated date of birth of 18 December 2017 and at the time of rescue at the beginning of December 2018 weighed around 78.80 pounds. She is listed as a Rottweiler Mix. We have no way of knowing the exact breed, it is up to individuals to decide what breed they think is most likely. SASSIE is a big, young, goofy girl. She is still figuring out her size but whilst at the rescue played great with dogs of all ages and sizes, including small pups. She is very loving and affectionate and loves to roll on her back for her belly to be rubbed. Whilst at the rescue she has not had any training, but she does wall well on the leash, rides great in the car and is responsive so training with proper techniques and continuity would be easy and fun. SASSIE was adopted at the end of 2018, however, had much to the families upset they had to bring her back a few weeks later as she played very rough with their senior Labrador who was very submissive. SASSIE was also reported to be possessive of toys and treats and would go and take things from the lab and keep them for herself. The family loved her dearly, but their other dog was injured and they didn't want her to live in fear or a stressful environment. I think that since the other dog was submissive, SASSIE when playing rough didn't know when to stop or when she had gone to far, which whilst here at the rescue the other dogs would play and let her know if she got a little too rough and she would then adjust her play accordingly. She was never aggressive in any way with other dogs, food or toys whilst here and was in the trusted room where several dogs all lived together and shared living space, feeding stations and toys, hooves ect. SASSIE needs an active family, training is very important since she has shown alpha signs and it is important that she knows what is acceptable or not. I do not think she needs to be the only dog as long as the family is capable of working out any issues if she does get possessive of toys and such. If she was an only dog, I believe play days are important so that she can learn more social skills with other dogs and learn how to behave around and with them. She will need a family that understands the importance of training and we encourage all families to work on basic and advanced training as a family so that boundaries and expectations can be set and both Luna and her humans can learn each others body language and personalities and form a stronger bond and understanding of each other. She is a smart intelligent girl and so needs a lot of mental stimulation as much as physical exercise to ensure she gets what she needs and will also help keep her out of mischief. We do not recommend dog parks for several weeks, if not months, it is so very important for families and dogs to form a strong bond and get to know each other before exposing them to the potential dangers of dog parks All dogs (except dogs saved from China) are available for adoption for an adoption fee of $550. Canadian adopters need to know that customs charge 15% taxes when entering into Canada. This fee is not negotiable and is used to cover the rescue costs of pulling, vetting, health certificate, transport from Texas to Maine, monthly preventatives, supplements, food and anything else that is needed.
