About WAYLON-JJ (TIGARD OR)

Adoption Fee: $200.00
Catahoula mix
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male

We require an adopt application first and then we will visit by phone. We like to get acquainted before we do meet and greets to approve your app and see if our dog might be the right fit for you. Everyone wins when we do it this way. No one is obligated by filling out the app nor are we but it is the best place to start. www.jcldr.com is our website and the form can be found there. Waylon is a 80-lb male Catahoula, approximately 4 years old. (which is really a young dog in his prime) neutered and up-to-date on vaccinations. He has not been tested for heartworm, but Oregon is almost heartworm-free, and he has been on preventative. No cats or small children. WE NEED A NEW FOSTER HOME OR FOSTER WITH INTENT TO ADOPT! Waylon needs a new foster or foster with intent to adopt because where he lives is very near a dog park, heavy stimulus with dogs running around everywhere. He did fine with other dogs in the right setting, but the neighborhood he is in just keeps him more watchful and protective and reactive. He is a good boy with a poor start and a lot of change in his life so he needs more stability and time and patience. Here is the good about him and if you wish to know more please email [email protected] and we will give you full information on him. He is sensitive and loving and really deserves a good home and new chance. Here is the good things about Waylon: GOOD: Waylon is great with all people, regardless of age or size or whether they are strangers. He simply trusts and is eager to meet and please people. He is sweet, loving, intelligent, gentle, loyal, alert, happy and adorable. He is housetrained and knows all of his basic commands. He is crate trained in wire crates but since covers calm him he might do well in an airline approved crate, it is his den. He is incredibly smart and picking up words and training very quickly. He is affectionate and very obviously attached but not particularly cuddly. He prefers to be in the same room as you or sitting next to you on the couch. If you want to feel safe and secure, Waylon is wonderful because his appearance is intimidating and his bark at strangers sounds alarming, so we know no one that didn't know us would dare come into the house while we are not home (and even when you ARE home!). Catahoulas are very protective of their family and that is a good thing. Foster had contractors coming into the house to do work while they were both at our jobs and contractors had to triple check with them to make sure that it was safe to go inside, because the dogs were scaring them, but with confirmation the guys went inside and other than sniffing and investigating the newcomers all went well. He gets along with all dogs while he is off leash (big, small, different personality and play styles) and we were told by our dog boarding facility (that is a five acre open dog run,) that he was wonderful with them and with their other dogs. Even though he is a high energy dog, he is calm and relaxed in the house and happy to just be in the same room as you, sleeping or snacking on his Kong. He has absolutely no resource guarding problems (easily share toys, treats and bowls of food, with people or with dogs,) (ADMIN NOTE**, although we do not recommend dogs sharing bowls of food.) He loves to play, mostly with his stuffed animal toys than with a ball. Though sometimes he is interested in playing with the chuckit. Waylon behaved wonderfully during a large Christmas party fosters had at home with 25 people (including small children) where he let everyone pet and play with him and he stayed out of the food. He does very well at the vet, a little nervous but is trusting and obliging to vet staff. When they went out to the family farm with acreage, he comes when called to check in and didn't wander too far from his humans. At 5 years old a dog is in their prime so he still has the silly energy of a puppy and often rolls around for belly rubs or buries his head in the carpet leaving his butt up in the air for scratches and makes foster parents laugh every day.** NOTE** Foster mom has told me that he is good with children so we have added that into his bio. Remember that he has been tested out on some children and he has done well with them. Dog respectful children might be just what Waylon needs in his life. Originally his first owner was afraid his strength might be overwhelming. And it might be for some children. Children handling him by leash is not a good idea. He is strong on leash.
