About Charlie

Australian Cattle Dog / Miniature Pinscher
Age: Puppy
Sex: Male

I adopted a wonderful Australian Cattle Dog mix pup when he was 8 weeks old. His name is Charlie, and he has a great temperament, is well socialized (humans and dogs) and plays well with other dogs, but unfortunately he is too much dog for my husband and I at this stage in our lives. Charlie is ~35lbs, black and tan, neutered, UTD on all vaccines and is on monthly flea/tick prevention and heart worm prevention. He has been through basic puppy and obedience classes (which he loved and excelled at), and is eager to please. He currently goes to Camp Bow Wow during the day and has been doing great there as well. I am looking to rheum Charlie because though he is an all-around great dog, he is too much energy/too much dog for my husband and I. Charlie is an awesome, super smart, friendly, loyal, and all together fabulous dog. This is such a hard decision to make, but ultimately we feel that he is not the best match for us. He is the kind of dog that needs a job and needs to know where he stands, as well as needing lots of exercise and regular training. We have been giving him lots of exercise and trying our best with training (he loves it and is super responsive!) but he has so much energy and at this stage in our lives (late 50s) we are not able to give him what he needs. The reality of the situation is that he is too much dog for us, and even though we are strongly bonded and love him like crazy, we think he would be happier and better off in a home where he would get the exercise, training, and attention he needs. Charlie LOVES hiking in the woods, swimming, going on long walks, and, more than anything, playing fetch. He is super agile and will jump several feet in the air to catch his ball. When he is focused on playing fetch the world could go up in flames and he would stay focused on his 'job'. He would do awesome in agility. Charlie loves attention though is also independent. He loves chew toys and exploring and sniffing out new smells. He is by far the smartest dog we have ever had and loved his puppy obedience class. Overall he is a great dog whose needs we are just not able to fully meet at this stage in our lives. We love him dearly, but ultimately his happiness and wellbeing are the most important, and we think he would be better off with someone who could give him more in the way of training and consistent exercise & mental stimulation.
