About Shelby-PENDING!

Our sweet and beautiful Shelby couldn't be more loving no matter how hard she tried. Shelby is a 6.5 year old, 8 lb Shih Tzu/Brussels Griffon mix that is just waiting to be the love of someone's life. Both Shih Tzus and Brussel Griffons are extremely popular breeds and somewhat unusual to find in a high-kill shelter. It makes perfect sense in that they're known for their great temperaments, non-shedding coats and easygoing and cuddly personalities. Farfel's tries to rescue every Shih Tzu and Brussels mix (they must pass temperament testing with flying colors) that is in need of our help with confidence they will be snuggly and sweet best friends. Shelby has had a challenging period of time but is now safe and sound��%BD'��%BD|never to be cold or hungry again. But through it all��%BD'��%BD|Shelby doesn't hold a grudge and desires only to be the best and most loving companion. Shelby is a middle-aged girl and still a blank slate��%BD'��%BD|open to all possibilities if treated kindly and with respect. Group training classes with her family and a positive reinforcement trainer would truly serve both Shelby and her family (as it does every dog and their people). Together they will learn the skills to have Shelby be a companion that is well-behaved in every situation. It also creates strong bonds of respect between pup and family. Shelby tends to be a happy-go-lucky girl who loves life (once comfortable in her environment) and responds so well to love and time spent together (hugs and kisses are absolutely awesome). She's the greatest lap-dog we can imagine and thinks being held and petted is the most awesome thing imaginable.. and of course some great treats are always a wonderful option. Shelby gets very attached to those she loves and before you know it, is on her way to her favorite people for belly rubs and serious loving. Shelby loves to come along (and is very portable at just 8 lbs)..be it to a dog-friendly workplace, a walk on a neighborhood path, or a vacation (she's a perfect fit for under a plane seat). Just socializing is wonderful��%BD'��%BD|Shelby would love to be there as Companion #1. She has such a pleasant personality and is mellow and low-maintenance enough to fit in just about anywhere. We envision Shelby in a home that will provide her with exercise and mental stimulation. She likes other gentle dogs and enjoys her family more than anything! Shelby wouldn't be happy spending long hours alone��%BD'��%BD|she is far too people-oriented to be happy with that. A retiree or a person who works either part-time or from home would be perfect. Shelby would appreciate the companionship and consistency of those relationships. She will also learn that she's special...and loved and cared for. This is a lesson that results in a happy and confident companion dog. Shelby appears to be (and her breeds support) a non-shedding girl...although it's always difficult to tell for certain until her sad shelter hair grows out. Shelby will therefore require a commitment to periodic grooming and great nutrition (a daily salmon oil supplement is a great choice for coat care as well as longevity) to keep her gorgeous golden and white coat healthy, cottony-soft and matt-free. Shelby is arriving on transport in Boulder on Saturday 12/15/18. Applications are currently being accepted for our sweet girl.
