About Katie-ADOPTION PENDING

Maltese / Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier
Age: Puppy
Sex: Female

Whenever a sweet and engaging Terrier mix gets into an urgent situation, Farfel's rescuers like to help. We find that dogs of this breed mix can be counted on to be loving, super- smart and make great family companions. They fit so well into a household and become very devoted best friends to their family. Sometimes rescue dogs are initially a bit shy....but put them into a home with a very loving family that provides frequent socialization, nurturing, positive reinforcement training and belly rubs.. and they will shine. Katie is one of these pups...she's a blank slate that's just waiting for the commitment of a great family. Her love will know no bounds as she becomes a best friend and the greatest lap dog ever. Katie is such a great age and size... at just about 18 months old (such a great age - young enough to be open to new and wonderful possibilities in her life yet old enough to have left her babyish behavior behind) and weighs 9 lbs (a perfect size to accompany her people anywhere a sweet and well-behaved pup is welcome). Katie is lucky enough to have inherited the intelligence of the Wheaten Terrier along with the curiosity and silly/ loving nature of the Maltese. She is so excited and attentive when her people teach her the wonders of her world. It is for this reason that Farfel's is searching for a family that will commit to positive reinforcement group obedience training classes with one of our approved trainers in your area. These hour long classes are generally 6 weeks long and require a minimum of 15 minutes of practice each day. It's a minor investment of time/resources to have a well trained pup that can accompany their family everywhere a well-behaved dog is welcome. If Katie is trained with a force-free trainer, given tons of love, socialization with humans and other dogs...she will grow into a self-confident girl who will be an excellent companion. Katie has all the elements working in her favor since she's starting out with a great temperament, a love of life and a puppyish desire to please. We'd like to place Katie in a home with either active retirees or a younger family who works from home or part-time and loves spending lots of time with a fuzzy family member. Katie is too sensitive a girl to be happy with her days spent alone...it is for this reason we would like a family that spends lots of time at home. Katie would also enjoy the company of a fun and respectful canine...she would love the playtime and companionship. Katie enjoys the sunshine and socialization on walks with her foster mom. The trails and paths of their Texas neighborhood speaks to Katie's young energy and love of fun once comfortable in her environment. Window-shopping would also be great to fine-tune Katie's urban skills and provide the interaction that is so important in the development of a dog's abilities. With feelings of security within the family, Katie will learn the skills of being alone and knowing her family will always return. Katie has a potentially gorgeous coat that when healthy will be soft as cotton (so sorry about the sad shelter photos of Katie..we've requested updates and will post upon receipt) . Katie's non-shedding or lightly shedding coat will require a commitment to periodic grooming and great nutrition (a daily salmon oil supplement is recommended for longevity and coat care) to keep her coat cottony-soft, healthy and matt-free. Applications are currently being accepted for this very sweet, fun-loving and loyal best friend. An application can be found at http://farfels.com/farfels-rescue/adoption-form/. If interested, please fill out completely and submit. **PLEASE NOTE** If you're truly interested in adopting Katie please be sure to submit our adoption application. It's the only initial tool that we have to determine a great match for this very deserving dog. We're sorry, but in most circumstances, we're unable to get back to those that don't submit an adoption application. Thanks so much for choosing rescue. **2nd NOTE** Farfel's isn't a shelter. We make a commitment to every dog that we rescue that they'll never be in a facility again. Toward this end, every dog that joins Farfel's Rescue either gets spoken for prior to their arrival in Colorado by pre approved families (who have submitted an application) or has a foster home waiting for them. While we'd love to see you, please don't come to Farfel's expecting to meet dogs. All Meet & Greets are set up by appointment.
