Max could be that dream come true pup for retirees who enjoy spending their time with a scruffy and adorable guy who is very loving and engaging (once comfortable). There's no question that he would also do well with gentle, dog-loving older kids who enjoy the fun and snuggles that a sweet little dog brings to a family. We want to make certain that Max is handled kindly and respectfully...he'll return that loving treatment a thousand times over with snuggles and sweetness. Max does like playing and is entertaining in his silly antics, young energy and the huge love he wants to show to everyone he knows once he is comfortable in his situation. Max's story is all too common in his extremely close call to being euthanized in a scary New Mexico shelter....but who could ignore his cuteness, adorable manner and desire to bond with anyone who could be his best friend? Max is initially a bit shy..but give him a moment (a belly rub and yummy treats are helpful) and he inches just a bit closer to a welcoming lap. Before you know it he's gently loving you with a soft kiss. The awesome New Mexico rescuers recognized all of this and knew that there was a home out there that would love, respect and make this little guy a permanent member of their family. At about 18 months old and a tiny 5 lbs, Max is a perfect size for walks and outdoor fun..and then at the end of the day would enjoy nothing more than a warm lap or a spot on the couch or bed next to his favorite person. Max would do well with anyone who's invested in spending time with their pup. We are searching for a family where home is a favorite place.. or they'd like to take along a cute fuzzy guy wherever a sweet little dog is welcome. Max would be the most committed and loving best friend and would be overjoyed with the opportunity to come along and be part of the fun. He's so pleasant and portable that he can be a part of any adventure....it can be a visit with friends, a car ride, a vacation or just an afternoon spending time together plopped down on the couch. All of this would speak to Max's sweet temperament. We aren't open to a home where the family members spend their days working full-time outside of the home....we'd like Max to get more time and attention than is possible with that lifestyle. Max will not be neutered when he arrives in Denver - while we request it, there just aren't enough vets to cover the needs of the vast number of homeless dogs in this part of New Mexico. Farfel's is happy to cover all costs for Fineus's neuter and microchip after his arrival if one of our rescue vets is used. Max has a gorgeous cottony-soft coat that is representative his breed mix. Max's stunning hair will require a commitment to periodic grooming and great nutrition (a daily salmon oil supplement is excellent for both longevity and coat care). With this care, Max's coat will be so very soft and shiny with good health. Max will be arriving on transport in Denver on Saturday 12/15/18.
