About Ember

This little cutie is Ember, a 12 week old, 12 pound female German Shepherd Mix. Ember is a smart, active puppy who needs a family smarter than she is prepared to raise her into a great adult. Fully grown Ember should weigh somewhere between 45 and 65 pounds. Ember requires a fenced yard to run and play safely. Ember is one of two survivors from a litter of 14 born to a mama on the end of a chain. When Ember came into rescue she needed a little help. We noticed she was favoring her right back leg after she played hard. The first step to figuring out what Ember needed was an x-ray. We didn't need to look any further. Ember had a crushed femoral head. The femoral head is the ball of the ball and socket of the hip. Ember suffered some type of blunt force trauma to cause this. The surgeons at Iowa Veterinary Referral Center in Des Moines quickly fixed her. Ember had an FHO, a Femoral Head Ostectomy. The head and neck of her right femur were removed and her body has formed a false hip joint. Ember is no longer in any pain and has recovered easily from her surgery. Ember is doing great at her house training but is still a baby so her forever home needs to have the ability to get her out to potty every 4 hours through the day until�'��she gets older.�'���'�� Ember is spayed, microchipped and has had two of the three required distemper vaccinations. Her adopters will be responsible for her rabies vaccination and 14 weeks and her final distemper booster mid-January.
