About Redford

Redford is a very high intensity working dog. For the first 5 years of his life he worked as a hunting dog and he loved and took his job very seriously. This handsome boy is always 'on' and ready to go go go. He is a confident boy and would be ok with another high energy, dog friendly/savvy dog in the home. He is too much working bird dog for a home with cats, small dogs or kids. He is kennel trained, clean in his kennel as long as he gets frequent exercise/potty breaks, and barks when he wants a potty break. So far he finds crates to be a bit restrictive for his taste but with training, time and patience that could change. Because of his hunting background, Redford needs lots of outdoor active time and a secure, physically fenced space to explore, hunt and self-exercise. The beauty of watching this dog cover ground is only matched by the beauty of the trust and love in his eyes as he melts onto the floor and rolls over for a belly rub. He knows heel, sit, down, wait, roll over, come....when he wants to�'�| and likely a host of hunting commands that we have not explored with him. His person needs to be experienced with hunting dogs and understand how to work with a dog that is confident, smart and high energy. His person the first 5 years was a man and he responds quicker to men and he is likely to 'test' a woman more than a man until you prove yourself worthy to him. Redford bonds very quickly with his people, and is affectionate in that goofy setter way. He does guard resources like toys (which he LOVES to de-squeak) and food so he will benefit from games and exercises with his person to 'trade' for higher value rewards. He is very treat motivated. This smart boy needs direction and consistency to which he responds really well. Redford is neutered, micro-chipped, up to date on vaccines and tests, and heartworm negative. He is in a foster home near Memphis TN. He is a big, strong boy; bred to be a powerhouse working dog.
