About Victor

Adoption Fee: $200
German Shepherd mix
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male

Victor came from the local shelter, so not much is known about his background besides what I have learned about his personality thus far. He loves to play, cuddle, ride in the car, chew on his toys, go on walks, and learn! He loves people, though I am unsure of how he is around children. He is very much a typical German Shepherd- alert, intelligent, and all about his humans! He is very food motivated and learns quickly. So far, he knows how to 'sit' and will come when called while walking on leash or inside the house. He is about average energy, requiring about an hour of physical exercise and about 30 minutes of mental exercise, such as training, daily. He is housebroken and does excellent in a crate, though he does have mild separation anxiety. He tends to bond to women more quickly than men, but he has never met a stranger! He isn't the best with other dogs, but with more socialization and training, I believe he would be fine in a home with other canines. Although he does not show aggression towards other dogs despite not being great at interactions with them. He will need an experienced adopter (breed experience or similar breed experience) with the ability to train him or hire a trainer, exercise him daily, and have a fenced-in yard. He will need more basic training and work on his 'manners.' Victor has a high prey drive and wants to chase squirrels, birds, and cats while out on walks. He has improved some, but even with the proper training, I would not trust him around cats or other small animals. For example, he gets very focused on my cats, often sniffing or staring at the door to their room. He takes salmon oil for his dry and flaky skin and dull coat, and both have improved steadily. He will need to gain a bit more weight as well. He is currently on Aldi's Heart to Tail dry food, but I would highly recommend transitioning him to a better quality food. I have given him raw meats before and I think he would do great on a raw diet, though he is not picky and will eat just about anything! His favorite food is cheese! He is heartworm negative, up to date on vaccinations, and microchipped. My reasons for rehoming him have a lot more to do with me than do to with him. Firstly, I grew up with dogs, but Victor is the first dog I have owned personally. I have severe anxiety, making me an insecure dog owner and even more insecure trainer. This poses a problem as Victor needs basic training that I am unable to provide him with, nor am I able to hire a trainer. I am finding less and less time to dedicate to Victor, and it is absolutely not fair to him. My emotional wellbeing has declined since adopting him, which is due to the amount of work he requires. I was not at all ready to take on such a challenge. He also has attempted to harm my cats, and I do not feel confident with him being around them under any circumstances. Rehoming him was an extremely difficult decision, but I do believe it is the right one for me, my cats, and for Victor. Victor will stay with me until his perfect match is found. There will be a rehoming fee, an adoption application, and an adoption contract. If you or someone you know may be interested in adopting him, please do not hesitate to contact me via text message or email. Please no phone calls as I am not able to answer the phone more often than not.
