About Houma

Adoption Fee: $50
Pit Bull / American Bulldog
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male

Meet Houma! He's named after a small, swamp town in southern Louisiana. (Pronounced Ho-muh) Houma was adopted from Seattle animal shelter after being picked up as a stray in Seattle. His history is otherwise unknown. He was very underweight at his adoption, but since then he's filled out quite nicely and looks like a healthy young pup! After doing some research we think Houmas most dominant breed is Argentino dogo. We've had him for two months now and he's shown how good of a boy he is. Houma is very good inside the house, he doesn't chew or get into the trash. He is quite the good napper, but he also really likes to roll around on his back playing with his Frankenstein toy. Houma really likes his ball, though he doesn't quite understand the concept of fetch, he's an adorable sight to watch chase it. His favorite place in the house is curled up on his cozy armchair covered by his blanket. Houma is very well house-trained. He can hold his bladder for at least 8 hours and has never had an accident. When he needs to go out he'll sit/lay down by the door and waits for you to get ready to take him out. Houma is not the best with other dogs. He gets over-whelmed and very excited when meeting other dogs and can be become difficult to handle. Houma's boisterous and pushy playstyle can make dogs uncomfortable, so Houma will need some help and training to properly meet new dog friends. We've recently taken him over to a friends house who owns a very high energy german Shepard and Houma has played very well with her. We've have had many interactions with people, from all different walks of life, young and old and Houma has performed above excellently when meeting people. Very friendly, reserved and happy to meet people. He's met several babies and multiple young children. Houma could use a little help on the leash, but still performs well most of the time. He is also a very quiet dog. We have only heard him bark once. Besides his dream barks that come out as a squeak rather than a bark. Due to financial hardships we are no longer able to provide the care he needs. It breaks our hearts, but we feel he deserves a family that is better suited to his needs and care. We are asking for a small donation to this organization as a re-homing fee. Houma has a bed, bowls, collar, leash, rain jacket, toys, food, treats, shampoo, brush, blanket, clicker training, harness, and gentle leader, which will all go with him to his new home.
