About Apollo

Adoption Fee: 100
German Shepherd
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male

This is Apollo. He is a 90lb, 3 yo male, purebred German Shepherd Dog. Apollo has just been diagnosed with Anal Furunculosis which is a very painful genetic autoimmune disease that German Shepherds are predisposed to. Apollo is an incredibly smart, hilariously funny, extremely loving dog who would make an amazing companion to the right person/family that would be able to afford his medical treatment. The medication is expensive, but studies have shown it to be very effective with a high rate of dogs going into remission. He would probably require treatment for at least 6 weeks before remission would be possible. We are going to start his treatment but sadly cannot afford to sustain the cost beyond a few weeks. We would also be happy to let you contact our vet for serious inquiries. It absolutely breaks our hearts to have to rehome him, but he is so worth saving and has such a big heart that you will fall in love with him immediately. He's so perceptive to the emotions of his family that with the proper training, he would be a perfect service dog. Please save Apollo so we don't have to make the excruciating decision to euthanize him. To meet him you wouldn't even know that he's suffering from this condition. He still runs and plays and eats and sleeps just fine. We only found out because he kept licking his behind and would sometimes cry a little when he had an especially hard bowel movement, so we took him to the vet thinking it was an impacted anal gland. Please feel free to ask any questions and we would be happy to let you come meet him if you're interested. We would prefer someone with German Shepherd experience as he extremely strong and very protective. We would need someone who has a vet reference so we could be assured he would receive the care he needs. The rehoming fee is negotiable, we just want to be sure he is going to a family that can provide him with care he desperately needs. He is crate trained and housebroken but could use obedience trainning to develop some manners. He is super smart so with the right trainer, he would be remarkable. He is not dog or people aggressive and i'm not sure how he would be around cats but like a typical German Shepherd can be intimidating when he's first introduced to another dog. All bark, no bite etc. He's great with our other 2 dogs and has been fine around kids but could use some socialization skills with others. GSD Experience is preferred and a good vet reference is a must! He is such an amazing dog and so worth saving! I'm so frustrated with Rescue Agencies in Florida. I've contacted so many and they don't even want to hear about him. I'm hoping there's a family out there looking for an awesome pet that with some time and investment in his care, will get the companion of a lifetime.
