About Perdita

Hello friends, my name is Perdita, the little lost one. I was pulled from a bad hoarding situation by animal control and I ended up shut down in a scary, loud shelter. When I came to Augusta Dog Adoptions, I was emaciated, sick, mostly bald with flea dermatitis, and afraid of just about everything. I've been through a lot for a two year old, huh? After a lot of TLC, medication, and loads of extra food, I'm feeling much better and strong enough to find my forever home. With your help, I won't be the little lost one forever! I am a Shepherd/Shar Pei mix. Now that I'm healthy again, I weigh around 49 pounds, which also happens to be the optimal snuggling weight. And that's convenient, because one of my favorite things to do, besides nap, is curl up on the couch next to you. I am good with cats, dogs, and kids. I will try to play with your cats, but I won't hurt them. I currently have three doggo roommates and I'm getting along great with them. I'm still learning how to initiate play with smaller dogs so my little brother, Chico, thinks I'm a little annoying. Because food was scarce in my previous home, I have just a touch of resource guarding but it never escalates beyond some brief, quiet grumbles. I am still working on not jumping, so older kids might be a better fit so I don't accidentally knock anyone down. House training is my greatest training strength; simply give me a regular schedule and a couple of days to adjust, and I shouldn't have any problems. I am making great progress on leash training. I can be trusted to be left loose in your home; I am proud to say I haven't destroyed or chewed on a single thing in my foster home! I am currently on Cephalexin to help clear up some skin issues. I may have slight skin issues and ear problems for a while, so I'm hoping I can find someone who will help me work through this and make me feel better. Augusta Dog Adoptions is an all- volunteer, foster- based rescue. We take applications online and hold adoption events at Petsmart in Waynesboro, VA (821 Town Center Drive Waynesboro, VA 22980) every Saturday. A $175.00 adoption fee ($200 for puppies under 6 months old) helps us take care of all the dogs we rescue. All dogs are spayed/neutered, tested for heartworm and tick borne diseases (if old enough), microchipped, and vaccinated for rabies (if old enough), distemper/parvo and bordetella. They are also treated for internal and external parasites. Many dogs also receive extensive medical care such as dental work and major surgeries.
