About Vernon

Vernon is a 2 year old, 22 pound Border Collie mix. If Vernon could talk he would have quite a story to tell. The construction workers working on the Highway 30 bypass just south of Mt Vernon called us to help Vernon. They had been bringing food to Vernon in the morning and leaving their lunches for him at night for 3 weeks but couldn't catch him. Every morning when they would arrive Vernon would be curled up in the straw by their trailer but would run off when they tried to get near him. It was getting to cold for Vernon to survive on his own much longer. We got Vernon some blankets and water and left food for him several nights. We set a live trap near where he was bedding down so he would get used to it but didn't set up until he was consistently coming to the same spot. We baited the trap with a rotisserie chicken and set up a trail cam to watch the trap. Turns out Vernon loves chicken and went in the trap within an hour. Vernon got his name because he was trapped in Mt Vernon. He was just scared and didn't know who to trust. We suspect people had not treated him kindly. Vernon is a grateful little guy. He loves regular meals, attention from humans he trusts, toys and playing with other dogs. He loves to play ball. Vernon is a shy guy at first and needs some time to trust. He quickly becomes a very loving dog who seeks attention. Vernon is housetrained and does pretty well on a leash. He does need a fenced yard, he has already been on his own once and doesn't want to have that experience again. Vernon would enjoy a home with another dog to play with. He would not enjoy small children, their quick moves and loud noises would scare him. Vernon is neutered, up to date on vaccinations, heartworm negative, microchipped and ready for his forever home.
