About Rey

Adoption Fee: $50
Lab mix
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male

Rey is a young, loving yellow lab mix. We believe he is partially Sharpei based on his squishy nose. He grew up with his owner in Puerto Rico. She was in her 40's and loved him like a child for the first 2 years of his life. When Hurricane Maria devastated Puerto Rico, Rey and his mom were forced to leave their life and home behind. Because of the crisis she was unable to bring him with her when she fled to Texas. 6 months later she paid to have him brought to her where she discovered he had been kept in a small run and given little attention due to the nature of their crisis. She worked 12 hours a day and lived in a small studio apartment. She made the difficult choice to surrender him to our boarding facility a few months ago where we have all fallen in love with him. Unfortunately, because of his recent experience waiting to be reunited with his person, he becomes extremely anxious in cramped spaces. We have been working with him a lot over these last few months to help him relax and adjust to his new life. Rey isn't meant to live in a boarding facility though, he is unhappy and despite everything we do for him his friendly nature is in jeopardy as he becomes increasingly anxious and possessive of the little space he has. When we put him in our large daycare rooms with constant outdoor access, he is a completely different dog than when he is cooped up in his room. He has friends that he plays with, although he hasn't had many dog interactions, we know he is intimidated by big, loud dogs. He has a soft bark and loves to kiss ears. Rey loves to play and is very loyal. He needs a house with a big yard and a mature, loving family that can provide him the training and guidance he needs to recover from all this change he's had to go through.
