About Mama C

Adoption Fee: $80
Staffordshire Bull Terrier / American Staffordshire Terrier
Age: Adult
Sex: Female

Mama C's story appears to be a sad one. She looks to have been excessively bred and not properly cared for. She doesn't seem to know any commands, not even Sit, and when she is outside she will spend most of her time eating the weeds and grass along with fence, not really going about the usual playing or sniffing as most dogs do. This makes her a great leash walker, always on the straight and narrow and not getting distracted by smells every few feet, but it is sad to see a dog that looks like her main purpose was the produce puppies for sale and not really given a high quality of life and then apparently tossed out on the street once they were done with her. But despite what we suspect was a miserable past, she is a very sweet girl and loves being around humans and will give kisses without reservation. Her sweet smile and enthusiasm will add cheer to your day. She attended an Adopt-a-Thon at a pet store, and gave lots of kisses to the customers, never afraid of strangers, but also spent plenty of time barking at other dogs trying to get their attention. She did not interact with any other medium/large dogs, but she did hang out with a few small dogs also from the shelter and calmed down and seemed much happier with the smaller dogs around her. I think her barking was in a friendly, 'hey I want to meet you!' kind of way, but a Meet and Greet with another dog would be a good idea to see how she reacts and this incident shows that she was not property socialized so may need some work in that department. But she shows great potential, reacting to a quick 'No' and tug on the leash each time she barked so that by the end of the event she was already showing improvement. She was super excited for the car ride, hanging her head out the back window, so a seatbelt restraint would be recommended for the car. She was better behaved with the windows rolled up and still appeared to take joy in going for the ride. She did not meet any children at the event but has a very sweet, friendly personality so I think she would love to be around kids. Some TLC is currently needed for Mama C, such as nail trim, a growth on her back and a cyst on her rump, so inquire on these items if meeting her to find out if the shelter has had her checked out and taken care of any of these things. We are guessing she is about 4-5 years old. We would love to see her go to a home where she gets to spend her second chance being spoiled and pampered!
