Gunner (Purebred tri-colored Australian Kelpie) - AVAILABLE!!! Only $95 adoption!!! We just rescued this sweetheart from the euthanasia list. New pictures & a more detailed adoption profile will be posted in the future as we get to know this pet if it is not adopted beforehand. Additional notes: - I post updates on the pets in the comment section on each pets post in our Facebook group. To see his/her progress, go to: https://www.facebook.com/groups/1405138936478168/ - Fearful, needs to be worked with. Fear Level: Mild - This pet is friendly but shows signs of having been hit & kicked & needs to be worked with to build confidence. FROM SAFE HAVEN: He is very playful once he gets to know you. He likes balls, frisbees, squeaky toys, & plush toys. And he likes to play fetch, tug of war, & chase. He knows sit & shake. He's crate trained & house trained (using a doggy door). His only hurdles are that he is afraid of new things and new people. So he will need a patient person who is willing to desensitize & socialize him. This breed is smart & needs an active home. He would be a great jogging partner once he gets used to you! This breed also needs someone who takes takes the leadership role with a calm but firm & consistent leadership with positive reinforcement. NOTES FROM THE SHELTER: Kelpie.; Neutered; 1 YR/1 MO 38.72 Lbs I came to the shelter as an owner surrender. Surrender reason: OWNER PROB MEDICAL: Appears Healthy BEHAVIOR EVALUATION:This sweet boy was in a home for about two months. Owner states that it took Gunner a month in her home to become comfortable with her. Very scared of all strangers, & will normally run and hide if a stranger comes in to the home. In exam room was very still and would attempt to hide when first approaching. With use of treats warmed up and would approach and allow petting and examination. Would walk on leash but very easily startled. Eventually had to carry to get in to a kennel. He is really scared of the outdoors and the shelter is not helping him over come his fears. The good news is he does love the company of other dogs and squeeky toys. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: There is a real dog in there we know it- so we are hoping a rescue can take him into their hearts and homes where he can feel secure enough to be that dog! What each pet learns depends on how much time I have had to work with them, & if that pet has any additional issues that need to be focused on first. If you are interested in adopting this pet, please fill out an application http://www.adoptapet.com/Safe-Haven/adoption-application/ After we receive your application, we will contact you. ADOPTING A CAT OR DOG IS UP TO A 20 YEAR COMMITMENT! THEY ARE NOT OBJECTS THAT YOU CAN GET RID OF WHEN THEY BECOME INCONVENIENT. THEY ARE INNOCENT LIVING, BREATHING ANIMALS WITH FEELINGS THAT DEPEND ON YOU TO TAKE CARE OF THEM. IF YOU ARE NOT WILLING TO TAKE CARE OF, LOVE, & PAY FOR EVERYTHING THIS PET NEEDS FOR UP TO 20 YEARS, THEN PLEASE DO NOT ASK FOR AN APPLICATION. * Safe Haven STRONGLY believes that collars should only be used to hold their ID or as decoration. A dog can slip out of collar. Which becomes a problem if you are trying to restrain your dog, & it comes off. Also, attaching a leash to a collar puts pressure on the neck, which is one of the most delicate areas of the body, & could hurt them. For these reasons, Safe Haven includes a harness with every dog adoption to ensure the safety of the dog. A harness distributes the weight on the chest & shoulders. It also has a handle on the back that you can grab if need be, without hurting your pet (EX: Dog falls off your boat, just grab the handle & pull your pet back in with no harm done. With a collar, you would have to strangle your dog when pulling your dog in). Also a dog cannot slip out of a harness if it is fitted correctly, so it is much easier to restrain them.
