About Kopper

Dachshund
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male

Kopper came from a home that kept him in a tiny cage in a dark room away from the family and did not allow him attention or space. (p) He became neurotic/destructive and territorial of his cage, he bit his owner trying to take something from his cage and they were going to take him to a shelter when I intervened and said I'd work with him and find him a home. As I knew he just needed a better environment. I've had him for a year now and he's come such a long way. He's a very good boy. He runs the house and sleeps with me. We play fetch and Sun bathe. But the intention was always to find him a new best friend. As I do not have enough time to give him the fulfillment he needs. All he wants in life is to cuddle and play fetch with his red ball. He needs someone that understands dachshunds. Their wiley and cantankerous spirit. Their burrowing habits and NO JUMPING ON OR OFF FURNITURE. As their backs cannot handle it. He has a bit of separation anxiety. But only when you're home. When I leave the house he just burrowed in his blankets and sleeps all day. But when I'm home, he hates me being out of sight. Left overs from being separated from the family in his last home I imagine . it's nothing too drastic. He will just wait at whatever door you're behind and cry. He is perfectly content to just sleep in a burrito of blankets in whatever room youre in together. He is. t needy or denanding as long as you're close. He would love a house another dog he could play with. Or at least a human that will play fetch him daily. He's so small that it doesn't take much. Every morning I toss the ball a dozen tines or so in my small yard in between getting ready for work and he's happy as a clam. He does have a compulsion to grab whatever is dropped on the floor and eat it. I have taught him to 'drop it'. But sometimes I don't see him do it and catch him in time. For this reason it's best he us not in a house with a child. Or messy humans. He loves to be outside but WILL run away and it's hard to catch him. For this reason, fenced in yards only. He makes me laugh everyday. He's silly and sweet and stubborn.
