Meet Bentley! Bentley is a 100-pound, 6 year old, American Bulldog blend that arrived in Idaho as a transfer in late August from a Utah shelter where his time had run out. Before that, he had been bounced from home to home. It is a shame that such a nice dog never got the committed family to provide him the stability that he deserves. Boise Bully Breed Rescue is committed to finding that family for him! Bentley is a sweet, happy-go-lucky dog who loves rolling in the grass and getting belly rubs. He is a total sweetheart, a big goof that loves to play with toys. He loves to get toys in his mouth and give them a good shake and play keep away. He pulls a little when first being walked on a leash but quickly settles down. Bentley is housetrained, knows sit, shake, stay, and come. He has lived with children, and his second owner said he did very well with his kids. He is very treat-motivated, takes treats with a gentle mouth, but will need to be taught to do the same with toys in your hand. Volunteers are helping him learn the 'drop-it' command. Bentley is friendly with everyone he meets outside of the home, but is still getting used to strangers approaching him. Calm, slow introductions to new people are best. Previous owners have said that he thinks he is a guard dog at home. Expect him to let you know when strangers are around the house. Bentley would benefit from structured training that will help him understand what is expected, help him bond with his new family, and reinforce wanted behaviors. He does well with most large dogs, but cannot go to a home with small dogs or cats. Check out what a volunteer says about her first meeting with BENTLEY: 'My first time meeting Mister B. Man, is he a sweetheart!! He is a BIG boy. He looks like he might be able to add a few pounds! He is such a love. He didn't display any signs of aggression....no lunging or nipping on my watch. He is very even tempered. He gives big, gentle kisses. The only thing that should be noted is that he pulls a little. I took him to Barkwash and there was a certified dog trainer and groomer working. Bentley did SO WELL with him. The gentleman working said that Bentley looked really healthy. He loved getting a bath & the car ride to & from! He is a curious boy. He is super gentle with treats and loves to be pet. He got a Christmas toy that was destroyed before I could get a photo! He is just a big guy that needs to go with someone experienced! :) love him!
