About Joe

Adoption Fee: $250
Poodle
Age: Senior
Sex: Male

Introducing Gentleman Joe! He is a 7 pound white Poodle who is 10-11 years old. Joe truly is a total sweetheart. He came to our rescue along with the group of Yorkies we recently took in. He is heartworm negative, neutered, microchipped and is up to date on all his shots. Joe also has a dental scheduled which is included in his adoption fee. He will likely need some teeth pulled and, because few of his teeth remain, he mostly needs soft food now. Joe appears to be blind in one eye due to a cataract but the vet is confident that he has some vision in his other eye. He certainly sees light and shadow, as well as movement. Due to his limited vision, Joe would do better in a home with another dog to help him find his way around and learn the layout of his new environment. Joe has already become proficient at daily habits in his foster home. He knows the best potty spots outside and where his dish is for dinner. Happily, Joe has a fine sense of smell and keen hearing. When he comes across pieces of your clothing around the house he will often pull them into his bed so he can sleep next to your scent. Joe wears a belly band around the house for safety in the event that he might mark while inside. He enjoys a warm bath, a soft bed and the comfort of lying beside his human. Joe is gentle around children and dogs but has not been tested with cats. Perhaps because of his limited vision, Joe tends to focus around seeking out comfort zones that are familiar and where he feels safe, such as lying next to another dog, seeking a dog bed, or following your footsteps and responding to his name being called. He is quiet, shy and friendly. He responds to your presence with his little cropped tail wagging with excitement. He loves to be held close against you and will place his head under your chin in contentment when you hold him close. Joe is a sweet, gentle dog with plenty of good years left to enjoy lying in a warm patch of sunshine, waiting for a gentle hand to reach out and pet him as you enjoy a sweet moment together.
