OUT OF STATE ADOPTIONS: We do allow out-of-state adoptions for ADULT dogs, however, the adopter MUST come to Houston to get the dog and take the dog home with them. We do not allow our dogs to be shipped. Also, our puppies can only be adopted to the immediate Houston vicinity as it takes 4 months to get them completely vetted at our vet here in Houston. We will not allow our dogs/puppies to be adopted out of the area without being spayed/neutered. We spay/neuter puppies at 4 months old. Bernie's my name, loving life is my game! I am a happy-go-lucky boy with lots of energy and love to give. Look at my sweet eyes - I aim to please!! [FOSTER NOTE - Bernie really is going to be a great dog - he is the most gentle natured dog I have ever met - not a mean bone in his body. And he's learning - it's not his fault he wasn't taught any thing for the first 11 months of his life, he's making up for that now.] I'm especially lucky now to be a K-9 Angel. When I first came to them I was super skinny and had a skin issue. My skin is healing up and soon I'll have all my beautiful chocolate fur back. And I've had some good groceries and I'm working on putting on more weight. My foster momma says I'm lucky I can do that! I am still a puppy - I'm just big! So I'm just now learning what puppies need to learn. I have not had any accidents in the house or my crate. I don't love being in my crate during the day unless I need a nap but if you need to crate me I will quiet down and stay in there until you come rescue me from it. I am better in the crate at home than I am at the Adoption Center. I know when you tell me to 'crate up' that I need to go in and I appreciate a treat (or 2 or 3, remember I'm skinny) for doing it. And I will happily and quietly sleep in my crate for a solid 8 hours at night. I am learning that 'ah ah' means 'stop what I'm doing and look at foster momma for my next command', so I will listen when needed. Overall I take correction really well and learn from it. So far I hear 'ah ah' when I try to grab a shoe or a throw pillow or play too hard with my brother so I am doing those things less and less - I am learning! I do still enjoy a good counter surf though, so you'll need to watch me and teach me not to do that (a stern 'ah ah'), but did you know you can find some good things up there? Except for the one day I leaned up and reached into the sink and drank out of the bowl of soapy water. ick. Really, everything about being a dog is new to me, so I'm cautiously curious about everything and learn when I shouldn't be curious about something. I know I can be a good houseguest once I learn your rules. And I've also learned what nice pets and cuddles are and I know you won't be able to resist my sweet eyes when I come to you asking for them. I am living right now with 2 big boy labs and we all get along fine. I play with the younger one and I listen to the older one when he tells me to 'get off his lawn!' We eat together and get treats together with no problems. I try to copy what they do and I wait patiently for my food and treats. I'm learning some commands - I know 'go potty' when we're outside, and 'sit' (most of the time) and am working on others. Apparently I do have a lot of energy because I even wear out the 2 year old lab at my house. I appreciate it (and so will you) when I can go to doggy day are or the dog park to play and run! I recently was neutered, whatever that means, it wasn't fun, but my foster momma says it will help me healthier and calmer, so that's good. Bernie is a chocolate lab whose estimated date of birth is 1/1/18. As of 12/20/18 he weighs about 58 pounds. PUPPIES: Young puppies that have not had their second round of puppy shots will not be at the Adoption Center for our weekend adoption events. If you are interested in adopting a puppy, please fill out an application on our website http://www.k-9angelsrescue.org/k9_angels_rescue_adoption_process.html. If your application is approved, a meeting can be arranged. Also, we only adopt young puppies locally due to the 4 month time frame it takes to get them fully vetted and altered. SPAY/NEUTER: As we believe proper healthcare of one's pet is a requirement of good ownership K-9 Angels Rescue only adopts out dogs that have been fully vetted. If the dog being adopted is not already altered at the time of their adoption, the dog will be altered within 2 weeks of adoption at our vet at our cost, with the exception of puppies which will be altered as soon as the puppy is ready. NOTE: All dogs are officially the property of K-9 Angels Rescue until they are altered by our veterinarian. Please LIKE and share our Facebook page: www.facebook.com/k9angelsrescue.
