About Simba

Adoption Fee: $100
Shiba Inu
Age: Adult
Sex: Male

Personal Story: He was mine with an ex as a puppy. Ex and I broke up and he took Simba. Last summer my ex went to a psych ward and I got Simba back in October. He was neglected and has since recovered. Simba Story: 6yr old Shiba Inu. Up to date on all shots. He possibly has an allergy to Lepto and Tick shots/boosters, but if he has a shot of benadryl beforehand, he is fine. He only likes older, very relaxed dogs. I suggest he be an only dog or be with chill older dogs. He has been jealous of of my other, younger, dog, bit her many times (no blood), and bit another dog (no blood) because he was jealous the dog was playing with Storm and not him. The other dog was also young. I have taken him to the dog park and he growled and showed teeth at every dog that came up to him and tried to bite the puppy, but luckily he was on a leash. He got along with the 4 older dogs aged 8-12 for a week. I do not suggest he be with kids under 8-10 because he has food/treat and toy possessiveness. He does need to be fed away from other dogs, always. He also needs to be given treats away from other dogs. Aside from needing to be the only dog (or with older dogs) and no young kids, he is super affectionate and loves to be pet and cuddled. He loves all humans he has met and will immediately want attention from strangers. He craves attention and likes belly rubs. He LOVES walks and gets so excited when you get the leash out. He is Very good on the leash and taking him on walks. He doesn't pull at all. He is potty trained and crate trained. He sometimes just relaxes in his crate with the door open. He sometimes sleeps in bed with us and sometimes sleeps in his doggy bed. It's whatever his mood is, I guess. Shibas can be hard to train and Simba is already an older dog, so he may not respond quickly to training. He knows the following commands: sit, stay, place, lay down, come here, and go potty. One thing to note: he should be crated at first when no one is home. He has pooped/peed on the floor intentionally. Since this only happens in our house and didn't happen at all at my bf's parents' house, I think it is a lack of respect for us and him needing more attention. Since my bf's parents gave him so so much attention, way more than we give him since our other dog very much needs attention too, maybe that's why they had no issues with him. I feel that Simba doesn't like to compete for attention with our other, young, dog and also just doesn't respect us for some reason. He loves playing fetch, but he isn't allowed tennis balls in our house because he will tear all the felt off of them. We give him other doggy balls to play with. He loves treats and especially loves peanut butter. When he didn't eat at first when we first got him in October, we just put some peanut butter powder in his food until he ate his food normally, without it. Right now he eats special food because our other dog is allergic to all chicken products, but Simba can eat anything. He hates when I cut his nails and cleans his ears, but is always well behaved at the Petco groomer's. Typical of Shiba's, he hates being bathed. However, Shiba's do not need to be bathed as often as other dogs. He is allowed on the bed and couch, so if a family does not normally allow that with their dogs, it is just something to note for re-training purposes. He loves car rides, but we do not open the windows all the way for him because as a puppy he tried to jump out of the car many times and once succeeded. He will try to be up front with you, so if you do not want that, like I don't, he has a doggy seatbelt for the backseat. He doesn't really bark at all but he does have this cute noise he makes, kind of like a meow, but for a dog. Another thing to note is to not leave food out that he can easily get to because he will eat it. And it's not a typical dog thing to me because our other dog won't do that. Simba has no issues with things such as chewing on furniture or other household objects, doesn't go through the trash/recycles, or anything like that. I feel like I covered just about everything... I do want him to have a new home ASAP!
