About Darla

Adoption Fee: $175
Bluetick Coonhound
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Female

Hello darling, the name is Darla! It's been a rough road for me for some time, but I think I'm ready to find my forever home now. I came from a rural shelter with two five month old puppies; I could barely walk because I had wounds on both legs and exposed bone in one of my feet. My foster soon found out that I had been shot and that I had Lyme disease. After surgery and treatment for my Lyme disease, I am feeling much better, like a brand new woman! My pups have been adopted, so I'm hoping the world doesn't forget about me and all I've been through. I might be a 54 pound, 3 year old Bluetick Coonhound, but I am actually pretty shy and timid, especially around men. This doesn't mean my home can't have a man in it, I will just need time to warm up to him. I'm great with kids, cats, and other dogs, though! I'm also crate trained, house trained, and leash trained. I do get scared of noises on leash, so you might want to hang on in case I need some reassurance. Once I am feeling comfortable, my energetic side comes out from time to time and I've been known to play with a dog or two. That's actually my favorite thing to do at my foster mom's house right now because she's got dogs of all ages, shapes, and sizes! I really need to find a home with another dog and a fenced yard. If you're looking for a well-trained, easygoing dog to complete your family Christmas photo, you're looking for me, Darla! Augusta Dog Adoptions is an all- volunteer, foster- based rescue. We take applications online and hold adoption events at Petsmart in Waynesboro, VA (821 Town Center Drive Waynesboro, VA 22980) every Saturday. A $175.00 adoption fee ($200 for puppies under 6 months old) helps us take care of all the dogs we rescue. All dogs are spayed/neutered, tested for heartworm and tick borne diseases (if old enough), microchipped, and vaccinated for rabies (if old enough), distemper/parvo and bordetella. They are also treated for internal and external parasites. Many dogs also receive extensive medical care such as dental work and major surgeries. For more information and to apply to adopt, please visit www.augustadogadoptions.org If you google our address, you will be directed to Richmond. That is NOT our adoption event location.
