About Jackson (female)

Rat Terrier mix
Age: Senior
Sex: Female

Sadly, we have made the decision that we need to find a new home for one of our dogs. Jackson is a rat terrier mix (maybe with whippet), she weighs less than 20lbs and is about 10 years old. She has the typical terrier assertive personality and is an alpha dog. We have 3 dogs and our little pack is not getting along. This has been an issue since we blended our dog families several years ago but has increasingly gotten worse since our family began growing 3 years ago. Now that we have human children (6 months and almost 3), there is increased stress in the house and unfortunately the dogs do not get the attention, mental stimulation, and physical exercise they need to thrive. Jackson is particularly sensitive to this and she has started lashing out at one of the other dogs. What started out as primarily verbal assaults has become increasingly physical and while no one has been seriously injured, we do not want it to progress to that. Unfortunately, the episodes are unpredictable and we can not put our children in danger. She has never been aggressive toward people and is very tolerant of the children but we are afraid that they will be in the wrong place at the wrong time. She has been evaluated by our veterinarian who found no obvious medical cause for the change in behavior. I am very sad about this but have come to the conclusion we can no longer meet her needs. She is a good dog is who is in distress, therefore finding her a home where she can get the attention she needs is in her best interest. Jackson needs a home where she is the only dog, also no cats as she has a very strong prey drive. She loves to fetch her ball for exercise but does not walk well on a leash as she just wants to run She is fully house trained, is crate trained and sleeps there at night. She loves nothing more than snuggling on the couch next to her human.I have attached a couple of photos.
