About Jiggs

Jiggs could be that dream come true pup for retirees who enjoy spending their time with a scruffy and adorable guy who is so loving and engaging. There's no question that he would also do well with very gentle, dog-loving older kids who enjoy the fun and snuggles that a sweet little dog brings to a family. We want to make certain that Jiggs is handled kindly and with respect...he'll return that loving treatment a thousand times over with snuggles and sweetness. Jiggs does like playing and is entertaining in his silly antics and the huge love he wants to show to everyone who is kind to him. Jiggs story is all too common in his extremely close call to being euthanized in a scary Texas shelter....but who could ignore his cuteness, adorable manner and desire to bond with anyone who could potentially be his best friend? This beautiful guy was turned into a high-kill shelter because his family wanted a puppy..they were very open that they always turned their dogs in when they reached adulthood because it wasn't as much fun for their kids. Jiggs may initially be a bit shy due to all the changes in his life..but give him just a minute (a belly rub and yummy treats are wonderful) and he inches just a bit closer to a welcoming lap. Before you know it he's gently loving you with a soft kiss. The awesome Texas rescuers recognized all of this and knew that there was a home out there that would love, respect and make this little guy a permanent..and very important member of their family. During Jiggs vetting, a cataract was found in one eye while the other is crystal-clear. He doesn't seem to notice and appears to see just fine. The vets were uncertain if this was caused by trauma or genetics..they weren't concerned and felt that no action needed to be taken. At 6 or so years old and 11 lb Jiggs is a perfect size for neighborhood walks (he's a very social guy) and backyard fun with his family..and then at the end of the day, Jiggs would enjoy nothing more than a warm lap or a spot on the couch or bed next to his favorite person. Jiggs enjoys his relationships with other dogs as well and would have so much fun with another like-sized, gentle canine companion. Jiggs would do well with anyone who's invested in spending time with their pup. Jiggs will be the most committed and loving best friend..and would be overjoyed with the opportunity to come along and be part of the fun. He's so pleasant and portable that he can be a part of any adventure....it can be a visit with friends, a car ride, a vacation or just an afternoon spending time together plopped down on the couch. All of this would speak to Jiggs sweet temperament. We aren't open to a home where the family members spend their days working full-time outside of the home unless special day care arrangements are made. We'd like Jiggs to get more time and attention than is possible with that lifestyle. Those who work part-time, from home or a pet-friendly workplace would be perfect for this very friendly and engaging guy. Jiggs is a non-shedding dog..often considered to be the most hypoallergenic breed mix available today. He will therefore require a commitment to periodic grooming and great nutrition (a daily salmon oil supplement is recommended for longevity and eye/coat care). With this regimen, Jiggs's coat will be cottony-soft with good health. Jiggs will be arriving on transport in Boulder on Tuesday 11/20/18.
