About Makena

Adoption Fee: $100
Pit Bull / American Staffordshire Terrier
Age: Puppy
Sex: Female

Makena is a beautiful loving, extremely loyal dog but she gets jealous of other dogs around her people and stealing the attention. She is an excellent protector but doesn't like lots of socializing with other dogs and tons of visitors. She is a house dog (never been left outside overnight or during the day all day) and is fully potty trained. She is also kennel trained but we did not kennel at night (she is very spoiled like our other dogs and sleeps on the couch or our bed) or during the day she would just lay on her bed and go in the kennel if we went out for long periods. She knows how to sit. She can walk on a leash but needs training in that as well if you plan to walk her much. She is spayed and microchipped and we have records. Her birthday is 11/13/17. She is very loving and snuggly dog. She loves to give kisses to the people she trusts and always greets you with a smile and excitement. She loves dog toys and chews up kids toys if she finds them laying around (I personally thought of it as kids toy population control lol). Her only real dowfall is she is overly protective sometimes. She would required a fenced yard and training to be introduced to other people and dogs. We are only rehoming her because her and my aunts dog get into random fights because they are both dominates. Her and my aunts dog got into another fight this past weekend and Makena ended up breaking my aunts dogs leg. We cannot have my aunt move out and with 3 kids we just do not have the time to train her one on one like she needs. She is young and totally trainable but we are too far stretched. We haven't done much formal training besides sitting and a little walking on a leash. We feel awful and are heartbroken over it but we couldn't have anticipated she would require more time and behavior training than we hve time for. She has never had any issues with our kids (she loves them and they love her), our other 2 dogs she was raised with, and most people we have had over as visitors. We have a lot of visitors though so at times she will not like one of them and without time spent one on one, she might try to nip them, especially if she senses fear. She has been given the world as far as a totally fenced property of acreage to roam and protect and have fun playing in but she has shown us that she needs more one on one training. She gets very scared and masks the fear in growling and barking and her defense mode kicks on. She is the type of dog that If you left your car window unrolled while parked somewhere and someone tried to pet her without her knowing them, she might try to nip at them. She would be a phenomenally loyal lifetime pet and companion to anyone who just wanted 1 dog, a best friend to be by your side at all times, to snuggle and put a smile on your face because she has one too, a protector of your property or house and if she was in a fenced yard and not socialized much with new visitors coming and going. We tried to contact a local pitbull rescue but were told 'they don't take owner surrenders' and were shocked to hear that. We want to find her the right home and people or person.
