About Joey

Adoption Fee: $100
Pomeranian
Age: Adult
Sex: Male

Meet Joey Butters, short for Joseph Butterscotch. He is 7 years old, weighs about 13 pounds, and is current on all vaccinations, and is in great health. Joey is a very sweet and loving dog who knows when his owner needs snuggles, but he's not overly clingy. He loves his crate and often seeks some alone time during the day. He sleeps in his open crate at night, and puts himself to bed in the evenings when he's tired. Like many Pomeranians, Joey is a barker, and his 'voice' is particularly deep and loud. He alerts to noises he hears and visitors knocking at the door. I used to live in a single family home where the neighbor's didn't care about his barking. Unfortunately due to finances, I had to move to a smaller townhouse, and I live closer to other neighbors. One of those new neighbors called the police to report the dog barking, took many video tapes of the barking, and I am now facing a potential misdemeanor charge for dog barking. I really need to find Joey a home where he is free to bark as he feels necessary. He doesn't bark without reason, it's always to alert me of potential danger. But he needs a home where this is permissible. I have tried bark collars of all varieties (citronella, vibrate, and electric shock) with no success. Joey feels it is his most important job to alert his owners. I have also tried two different trainers unsuccessfully. Joey walks very well on a leash, but he is reactive to other dogs and barks at them. He doesn't need tons of exercise but enjoys the stimulation of getting out. He doesn't play with toys very much. His favorite activity is sitting on pillows. That's all he really needs in the world, is a pillow to sit on and permission to bark as he needs to. He is house trained although he will mark unless boundaries are set with him. He knows how to use a doggy door. Unfortunately because of the neighbor and the pending lawsuit, I have not been allowed to let Joey outside to use the bathroom. He is currently using P-pads, which means his house training is probably going to need some refreshing. Joe tends to be a bit dominant with other dogs, he does best with females, especially submissive females. Not good at all with small children and will not consider re-homing him to a family with small children. Joey loves, loves, loves men best of all. I really need to find Joey a home where he is free to be himself. A home where barking to alert is permissible, where Joey can be the pampered prince that he is used to being, with no children around. I am asking for a re-homing fee to make sure that whoever adopts him is able to meet the financial responsibilities of dog ownership. I love Joey more than anything but I can no longer provide the best home for him.
