About Lance

Adoption Fee: $100
Rat Terrier mix
Age: Adult
Sex: Male

Lance is a very distinguished 9 year old gentleman who has found his way back to MBR after his owner passed away. While we say Lance is 'special needs', he's really no different than many humans: he's diabetic. You may be familiar with his needs; a very set feeding and insulin schedule. Both food and insulin are a requirement every 12 hours, in order to keep his blood sugar stable and keep him feeling healthy. Sometimes, when someone has a medical condition, they're not up for a lot of spontaneous activity. That's true for Lance too. He enjoys the company of others, and he's friendly, but he doesn't like to be caught off guard. That may also be due to his vision, which isn't perfect, and likely a side effect of the diabetes. He lives a predictable life due to his medical needs and his personality seems to reflect that need for routine. Part of so much routine means Lance prefers to be an only dog, and he becomes pretty attached to his owner as well (he checks on his foster mom in the shower sometimes!). Lance is loving, listens well, and is house/crate trained. See, there are benefits to predictability and routine! Lance knows what's expected of him, training wise. His perfect home would be with someone who's familiar with diabetes. The dog kind and human kind are basically managed the same (and good news - dog insulin is much cheaper, it's running us about $20/month). Maybe you're diabetic yourself. Or your child or another family member. Maybe your child needs to learn to manage his own special needs, and caring for Lance would help him learn that responsibility. If you're not familiar with diabetes, and you're still interested in Lance, that's cool too! Another great home for him would be with someone who needs/loves routine as much as Lance does. Do you always wake up at 7, have coffee until 8, take your morning walk, and then read the paper in the sunroom? Lance would love that! It'd be easy for you to add Lance's needs to your routine. Are you still with us? Great! You probably have awesome potential to be a good home for Lance. Fill out an application at mbrohio.com and once approved, you can meet him in person. If you have questions and are not sure you're ready to apply, that's fine too. Just email your questions to us at [email protected], and we'll get back to you. If you would like to complete an application for approval, please see our website at http://www.mbrohio.com or send us an email using the message box below.
