About Sassy-ADOPTION PENDING

Pug / Chihuahua
Age: Young Puppy
Sex: Female

There's nothing quite like puppy energy and silliness...and then they lie quietly on your shoulder breathing their warm baby breath. They're so pure and vulnerable that it's unbearable to think of them homeless and in a compromised situation! Sassy, at only 6 months old and about 11 lbs (estimated to be full grown at approximately 14 - 16 lbs), was facing relinquishment by her family into a very dismal high-kill shelter. Farfel's New Mexico rescuers are compassionate and loving and couldn't turn their back on this sweet puppy...they rescued Sassy just in the nick of time. This sweet and engaging Pug/Chihuahua mix (definitely has a very strong resemblance to a purebred Pug) is starting out with great energy while initially a bit shy due to all she's been through. The excellent results of her temperament-testing ended with a transport ticket to Colorado and a new life. Sassy is incredibly cute with the silly face of the Pug. Her dark eyes are very beautiful and reveal so much wisdom as she looks deeply into the eyes of her rescuer. Once Sassy feels safe and secure within her family, she falls deeply in love. She doesn't hesitate to place all her trust in the people who are kind and loving to her. Sassy is appropriately playful and inquisitive for her young age. She's so smart...very typical of the cross of a Pug and a Chi. Her foster mom has remarked that her family doesn't need television anymore... watching Sassy play and love up everyone in the home (including a grumpy Poodle) is much more fun to watch. Since Sassy is just a pup, she's a blank slate just waiting for a kind and patient human to show her the way. She has all the potential in the world to be an awesome family companion - she will form firm bonds with her family (as well as other dogs and humans out in the world) and learn positive socialization skills through positive reinforcement puppy kindergarten class followed by group obedience Classes (Farfel's is happy to provide a list of positive reinforcement/ force-free trainers in your area). It does take time and commitment...yet pays off a thousand times over when you have a dog that can accompany you out in the world with excellent behavior. We're open to Sassy finding her forever home with an active retired couple or individual with lots of energy and patience to train and enjoy a puppy. A younger family that works from home or part time would also be great for Sassy (she's far too sensitive to be left alone for the long hours of full-time work out of the home) Sassy has been really good with the gentle children at her foster home. They're 9 and 11 year old dog-loving girls who have been very gentle and patient with Sassy...through treats, love and time-spent, Sassy has fallen in love with them. Sassy will be up to date on her vetting. We're hoping that she will be spayed when she arrives from New Mexico... however there are far too many dogs and not enough vets in this impoverished area of New Mexico. If Sassy can't be fixed prior to her transport to Colorado, Farfel's is happy to cover all costs for her spay at our rescue vet to be in line with our commitment to be a part of the solution to pet overpopulation. Sassy has a stunning Pug coat that will require periodic care. To maintain a cottony-soft and very healthy coat, Sassy will require a commitment to great nutrition and periodic baths/brushing. A daily salmon oil supplement is also strongly recommended for longevity and hair care. Sassy will be arriving on transport in Denver on Saturday 11/17/18. If interested in a sweet and cuddly best friend, an application can be found at http://farfels.com/farfels-rescue/adoption-form/. If interested, please fill out completely and submit. **PLEASE NOTE** If you're truly interested in adopting Sassy, please be sure to submit a Farfel's Rescue adoption application. It's the only initial tool that we have to determine a great match for this very deserving dog. We're sorry, but in most circumstances, we're unable to get back to those that don't submit our adoption application. Thanks so much for choosing rescue. **2nd NOTE** Farfel's isn't a shelter. We make a commitment to every dog that we rescue that they'll never be in a facility again. Toward this end, every dog that joins Farfel's Rescue either gets spoken for prior to their arrival in Colorado by pre approved families (who have submitted an application) or has a foster home waiting. While we'd love to see you, please don't come to Farfel's expecting to meet dogs. All Meet & Greets are set up by appointment.
