About Murphy

Adoption Fee: $75
Chihuahua
Age: Adult
Sex: Male

This is Murphy. He's a wonderful full-bred Chihuahua. His pattern is called 'blue Merle'. He was born on March 13, 2013. I bought him from an AKC breeder in Tampa, Florida when he was 12 weeks old. His mother was a show dog. He weighs 7lbs. He is neutered. He's up-to-date on all of his shots and just had his teeth cleaned in December 2019. You'll get all of his medical records when you adopt him. Murphy has been on flea & tick preventative as well as heartworm preventative his whole life. He's a healthy little fellow and hasn't had any serious health issues. After my daughter was born in 2018, Murphy became quite stressed and developed a queasy stomach. Occasionally, he needs famotidine (pepcid AC) to settle his stomach. You'll know he needs it if he vomits or starts eating grass. His ears are quite large and need to be cleaned regularly as well. Aside from that, no serious issues. As long as he's brushed and bathed regularly he barely sheds. He is fully housebroken. He's never cared much for long walks. First thing in the morning he always poops like clockwork. Ideally he goes out at least four times a day (first thing in the morning, midday, early evening, and before bed). He loves to run around in a fenced-in yard. I don't recommend letting him off the leash if you're somewhere without a fence, he's quick to run after anything that catches his interest. He loves to go in the car (especially if he has his bed on the seat!), but is not a fan of flying on an airplane. I only took him on a plane once and he was so stressed out I did not try again. Murphy is the most lovable little boy. He is a 'Velcro' dog and only wants to be in your lap. He LOVES to play fetch. He loves his toys. He loves to be snuggled in blankets. He loves to snuggle, day and night. He is extremely skittish of new people. He always has been. He barks at new people and visitors but warms up most of the time. He's a great 'alarm'. You'll know when someone is coming to the door. Murphy generally doesn't do well around other dogs. He gets very jealous! He also prefers women to men. I am completely beside myself and heartbroken over the decision I have made to surrender my beloved dog. He is the most loving, affectionate boy. My husband is allergic to dogs but has been (somewhat) coping with his allergies since we've been together, for my sake. Unfortunately, our baby daughter is also allergic to dogs. This is truly breaking my heart but Murphy needs a new home. Aside from the allergies, Murphy has become so fearful of our toddler that we are afraid we cannot trust them to coexist. He has nipped at her several times but has not broken the skin. We don't want it to get worse. He is such a devoted family member and this really breaks my heart. We truly have explored all of our options and believe that finding him a new home is the best option given the circumstances. My parents have taken him in for several months, but they are away most of the time, have another dog in the house, and often have visitors and it's just not a good fit for Murphy. He is stressed and lonely. I feel it's important that Murphy be in a a home with a single woman who works from home, is retired, or is home most of the time. Please, no children- he can be snappy. He's bit the mailman several times. He needs to be with someone who loves him even though he's a little quirky. I promise, his sweet snuggles and loyal nature make it all worth it. I'm hoping that you have room in your life for Murphy or know someone who does. If you know of a family who would be a good fit for my sweet boy, I hope you'll pass this message along. If you have any questions or want to meet him, please email me at [email protected]. Again, please do not inquire about Murphy if you have other pets, or any children in your home. Please only inquire about Murphy if you are a woman, he does not do well with men, though he may do well in a home with a married couple. He would do well in a house or an apartment. He is a very low-maintenance pet. Thank you.
