About Sophie

Meet our sweet Sophie. She is a 5-6 year old Shih Tzu who weighs 9 pounds. This little angel came to us from a hoarding situation and had lived her life outdoors until now. She is very sweet natured and loves to be with you, wherever you are. She has gotten along with all the other dogs at the foster's house and is quite happy to be living inside and have a warm comfy bed after what she had been used to. She has not been cat or kid tested but, given her sweet disposition, we do not believe she would have an issue with either. She loves to be held and explore her home. Given her previous life was lived outdoors, she is learning it is ok to sleep in the bed and will look to you for reassurance before she lies down. She has quickly learned about treats and gets very excited at treat time! She is working on her housebreaking skills and with time and patience will do well. She should not be crated unless the door is left open. Sophie is heartworm positive which does not surprise us given that she was living outside. However, this is nothing to be afraid of and she has already started treatment. The new owner must agree to continue treatment after adoption. This requires a monthly topical Flea/Heartworm treatment, specifically Advantage Multi, which is what all dogs should have. It is simple and inexpensive and the rescue will pay for her to be retested at 6 months or until she tests negative. She is Rabies vaccinated and microchipped. Sophie is pending a dental and spay which are both included in her adoption fee, as long as they are done by our veterinarian. This beautiful girl deserves a wonderful, loving family to provide her the love and life a dog should have.
