About Samantha

Meet sweet Samantha. She is a 5 year old Yorkie mix who weighs 9 pounds. Samantha is one of 6 dogs that came to us after being found as strays following Hurricane Michael. She looks a bit like Toto and she certainly isn't in Kansas anymore! Samantha is a cuddle bug and she loves to be in your lap. Once she is in it though, she considers it hers and doesn't like any of the other dogs in the house trying to muscle in on her space and she will growl at them if they try. Given our experience with this, it will get better over time if there are other dogs around. If you like to share your lap with more than one dog, they do learn to tolerate each other over time if they want to stay there! Samantha currently sleeps in bed with her foster parents. She has not been tested with cats or with kids. She is skittish and is frightened of loud noises and quick movements so probably would not do well around small children who can be unpredictable, both in their noise levels and movements. Since she is prone to react when startled, she would do better in a fenced in yard or would have to be on leash when outside otherwise. Luckily, Samantha does great on a leash and loves to go out on walks. She is also housebroken. Her foster mom hasn't seen her play with any toys yet but is encouraging her to try. Samantha is heartworm positive. We use the slow kill method at our rescue and she has already started treatment. The adopter must agree to continue with the treatment, which is simply to administer Advantage Multi every month as a standard approach for Flea and Heartworm prevention. It is simple, straightforward and inexpensive to treat and nothing to be afraid of. We have had significant success with this approach and can attest to its effectiveness. The rescue will pay for a heartworm test after 6 months and every subsequent 6 months, as needed, until she tests negative. Samantha is just an adorable sweet girl. She has been through a lot to get to where she is today and looks forward to meeting her furever family.
