About Bear

Adoption Fee: $175
Rottweiler mix
Age: Senior
Sex: Male

Hey kid, get off my lawn! Now get on my porch (and bring some snacks) so Grandpa Bear can tell you all the reasons you need a big old curmudgeon in your life. Things were going just great for me until my owner surrendered me to the pound because I went and got old on him. Apparently that's a crime these days, who knows? Guess he went out and got him one of those fancy Doodle dogs. You know friend, you look like the type to appreciate a gentle, wise dog. I'm very calm and I enjoy my naps and rubs. If you want to lay around and watch Matlock, I promise not to spoil any of the episodes for you. I'm pretty average temperament wise, but I can be a little dominant and grumpy sometimes if other dogs are acting a fool. Typically, I'm just fine around dogs as long as they are respectful towards me. Cats are great in my book; I happen to have a lot of respect for calm, sleepy, warm creatures like myself. I don't believe I'd be a good fit in a house with young children or kids who don't know how to give me my space. I'm old, dangit, I've earned my space! I've mentioned my wisdom, and baby, you better believe this gentle Bear is leash trained, house trained, and crate trained. Now, with wisdom comes age and with age comes some minor health complications. I said minor, keep reading kid! I have arthritis, probably from the Great Dog Wars of 1932, and I've also got heartworms. Great news for you is the treatment is easy and affordable. I just need some pain medication on the daily and, just like any other dog, some heartworm preventative every month. Now, I know it's real tempting to get a younger dog, but us seniors need some loving, too. If you're looking for a dog who can tolerate your other dogs, respect your cats, and curl up on the dog bed while you watch your soaps (just remember to reach down and give me a few reassuring head rubs every once in a while), you're looking for me, Bear! Augusta Dog Adoptions is an all- volunteer, foster- based rescue. We take applications online and hold adoption events at Petsmart in Waynesboro, VA (821 Town Center Drive Waynesboro, VA 22980) every Saturday. A $175.00 adoption fee ($200 for puppies under 6 months old) helps us take care of all the dogs we rescue. All dogs are spayed/neutered, tested for heartworm and tick borne diseases (if old enough), microchipped, and vaccinated for rabies (if old enough), distemper/parvo and bordetella. They are also treated for internal and external parasites. Many dogs also receive extensive medical care such as dental work and major surgeries. For more information and to apply to adopt, please visit www.augustadogadoptions.org If you google our address, you will be directed to Richmond. That is NOT our adoption event location. If you have questions, please message us on Facebook.
