About Zoey

Zoey is our 4 year old Red/Black German Shepherd. Over the years, we've proven to be the wrong kind of environment for her. She was born with hip issues, and I had an OFA done on her left hip 3 years ago. It was a tremendous success, and it hasn't slowed her down at all. I was having her check annually, and to date the right hip hasn't worsened. After the OFA I had her professionally rehabbed, and continue to get her monthly glucosamine injections ($25 a month at my vet), as well as placing her on a daily pain pill ($50 a month). Zoey suffers from fear based aggression, and will bark at just about anything. I give her a daily anti-anxiety medication (fluoxetine, $18 a month) that presumably helps. My hope is that a bulk of her aggression stems from her current living environment, as her interactions with other dogs and people when she's not with me are much more in-line with a more mellow demeanor. Regarding her ability to get along with others; I've had her around dozens and dozens of dogs, and I've only seen her aggressive on two occasions. She seems to love almost all dogs regardless of their size! I've got older children that she gets along with very well, but she doesn't appreciate strangers until they've made multiple visits. She has nipped at a few folks, but has never bitten anyone. Due to her behavioral challenges, I'll be screening potential adopters and appreciate your willingness with this.
