About Nora Kate-Courtesy

Nora Kate, spayed female, approximate DOB 05/06/2013, Treeing Walker Coonhound (or American Foxhound) - about 70 lbs. Nora was a stray picked up by MCCACC. She doesn't have a mean bone in her body, but she has started displaying dominant tendencies, such as mounting, marking and muzzle punching. She is an escape artist. She can get over a 7 foot cinder block wall with relative ease. She can climb ladders and shows no fear of anything. Except thunderstorms, which terrify her. She lacks the trainability gene, though I think would be successful at agility with the right handler. She would love it because she could run and climb to her hearts content. She knows sit but is averse to down and will not do it with any amount of bribery. She is not overly treat motivated but will do some things for treats. And she will completely shut down with any form of negative reinforcement such as ecollars or bark collars. She does well with the electric fence collar. She is terrible on a leash but loves going for walks and runs. She would make a great hiking or running partner. * She is crate trained and was house broken until recently. She started urinating in the other dogs' crates. I just had bloodwork done and am testing her urine to rule out medical, but based on her other behaviors, I think it is a dominance issue. I put down my male bloodhound mix, who was the king of the house, several months ago, and her behavior began to change shortly after that. Many of the issues I have with Nora (fence jumping, dominance, urinating in the house) can be fixed with proper training and time.
