About Bama

This little girl is Bama. She is a sweet senior Yorkie who is somewhere between 12-15 years old and weighs almost 5 pounds! She was surrendered to us when her owner she became too elderly and sick to care for her. Bama has some challenges of her own now that she has entered her golden years. She is completely deaf in both ears as well as blind in one eye. Her remaining eye is also somewhat impaired. It takes her a little while to map out any new surroundings and she tends to go back and forth a few times in the same area to get it into her memory, but she gets there. We had our vet give her a thorough examination and the verdict is she is doing great for her age. We currently keep her in a play pen with a puppy pad when she isn't being supervised. She doesn't see the pad very well but she knows what it is for and mostly meets her target when she uses it! We feel that if she was taken outside on a regular schedule she would get the hang of doing her business then as she picks things up fairly quickly. Bama will bark if she becomes anxious and unsure of her surroundings but is otherwise a quiet little girl so you often have to remind yourself that is still there. Bama does OK with other dogs. She doesn't mind them being there and will say hi to them but she isn't interested in playing. She has earned her quiet time and enjoys napping and snuggling instead.
