About Scout

Adoption Fee: $200
Australian Cattle Dog mix
Age: Puppy
Sex: Female

Scout is a beautiful 6 month old heeler mix, around 30 lbs. She is a smart, independent and energetic lady who loves belly scratches. We have had Scout since she was 12 weeks and kept her up to date on her shots and she was recently spayed. Scout is deaf but don't let that fool you, she is very smart. She has picked up on basic commands and hand signals quickly. She knows Sit, Lay Down, Paw, Stay, Jump and Off. She is working on loose leash walking and works really hard for treats. Scout has been great with potty training and hasn't had an accident inside in a month plus. She has been to doggy day care a little bit as well as a puppy social group and had good report cards. She had been really happy to go in her crate at night but recently been barky at bedtime. Now she barks for less than and minute before settling down. She does like her crate and will go in on her own when she is sleepy. She does well in the car and especially loves going on hikes. Scout loves her kong and chew toys. She is very agile and would probably do great with a job or playing fetch/frisbee, we just haven't quite got the concept down. We have decided to re-home Scout mainly due to her behavior towards our other dog. She is very dominant towards him to the point that he tries to hide from her. However she is often timid with dogs we meet on walks and has done well at daycare. We think she would do best in a house with no other dogs. We are not sure how she would be with cats or children. Scout has had some other typical heeler behaviors that have been improving. She will sometimes get over excited and jumps/ nips at people. This has mostly happened on walks after she begins to play with another dog then has to walk away. We have been able to stop the heel nipping in the house but this jumping/nipping happens on walks about 3 times a week. One of our big concerns is that being in apartment, Scout is not getting enough exercise and stimulation she needs. Our ideal home for her would be with someone who can continue to train her, is very active, and has lots of space to roam and/or a fenced in yard. We would be able to send Scout along with her vet paperwork, crate, leash/harness and toys as well as show you the hand signals we have been using for her.
